‘Oh, who can ever be tired of Bath?’ exclaimed Jane Austen, and that was presumably after she’d spent two hours in an M4 tailback. Well now, Jane, you’ve got even less reason to tire of England’s most beautiful city, chefs Pierre Koffmann and Marco Pierre White have teamed up to launch a new restaurant there called Koffmann & Mr White’s.
The first time that two Michelin starred chefs have teamed up to open a restaurant together, and between them they’ve got a near constellation of six stars, making this a highly anticipated opening! Koffmann & Mr White, located centrally at The Abbey Hotel, is a reunion for the chefs. Pierre Koffmann, famed in the industry and with protégés including Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, Tom Kitchin and Jason Atherton gave Marco Pierre White a job back in the 1980s. The great chef became something of a mentor to the up-and-coming White, as Koffmann recalls, “I remember giving Marco a job at La Tante Claire – he was late for his first two shifts, but quickly returned to my good books when he boned a delivery of duck and pigeons for me – they were absolutely perfect”.
Marco Pierre White went on to be the first British chef to be awarded three Michelin stars, as well as the youngest chef to do so.
This kitchen reunion will serve a combination of Gascon and British classics, but one thing’s for sure: the food should be incredible.
Koffmann & Mr White’s will open at The Abbey Hotel, North Parade, Bath, Somerset, BA1 1LF
