DSC Group the team behind Donostia Social Club, The Tapas Room and DSC Imports has just opened Tap 13, a zero-waste tap bar in Tooting Broadway Market and it sounds right up our street.
Making its home in The Cave, a space in the market home to pasta restaurant Mamma Mia! and Ulam, the Filipino sizzling dish concept, Tap 13 has no bottles, no mixers, no disposables, recyclable kegs and no straws. Basically, no waste. If you think that it just means 13 different craft beers you’d be wrong, they’ve got three cocktails, three wines, one frizzante, two ciders and four beers and reusable/returnable ‘growlers’ if you want to take drinks away.
The first three taps will be dedicated to cocktails, you’ll find an espresso martini, blood orange cosmo and rhubarb and rose spritz from One Point Eight. Taps four to severn are for wines which will come from Borough Wines and the group are saying that there is no reason for us to turn our nose up at wine on tap. They should know after all, owning The Tapas Room, a specialist wine shop. Not only do kegs keep the wine in perfect condition without cork taint, oxidation or fizz going flat, but also every keg is equivalent to 32 bottles and saves 16kg of glass from being produced. Nice one.
The two drinks that everyone expects to find on taps, beer and cider will make up taps eight-thirteen. Cider comes from, Herefordshire company, The Real Al Company and beers come from Austrian lager company, Steigl and South London brewery, Bullfinch Brewery.
There you have it 13 taps, 13 drinks and no waste. Now we just need the concept to catch on and we can say goodbye to unnecessary packaging.
Tap 13 is open now at Unit E5 Broadway Market, 29 Tooting Hight Street, Tooting, SW17 0RJ
