Brunch just got the royal treatment. No, not a story about Meghan Markle’s latest morning routine (The Tig, how we miss you!) but instead news that Indian restaurant Jamavar will be turning their Michelin star talent toward the our favourite culinary portmanteau (‘dunch’ can get in the sea).
The Royal Brunch is inspired by the seven princely states of India, and takes dishes from each very different region of the sub continent. Commenting on the new opening, Jamavar co-founder Samyukta Nair puts it like this: “Much like Jamavar, The Royal Brunch will be inspired by the Viceroy’s exuberant home in New Delhi. We wanted to bring a decadent yet leisurely Sunday offering to Mayfair through the narrative of our Royal Brunch”.
And it sounds like that’s exactly what’s happened. Start your meal like a right rajah with a glass of Laurent Perrier La Cuvée champagne, then take a throne for a feast.
The small dishes will include a trio of Raj Kachori, Samosa Chana Chaat and Chandni Chowk Ki Aloo Tikki all served with honey yoghurt, tamarind and mint chutney.
Dishes straight from the tandoor include Shahi Galouti Kebab, made to a recipe from the princely state of Awadh in northern India. A feast of Punjab’s Murgh Makhani goes along with with delicacies from the royal house Travancore including Alleppey Fish curry and Masala Egg Dosa.
And, of course, finish it all off with fragrant Indian sweets like Gulab Jamun dumplings and rose syrup, and Kubani Ka Meetha, an apricot and almond specialty from the Nizam’s kitchen of Hyderabad.
Get your maharaja this Sunday, or be a viceroy and rule them all.
