London may have the world’s best bar, but catch it while you can because it’s shutting down!
Dandelyan, the acclaimed cocktail bar on the ground floor of Southbank’s Mondrian Hotel, has been awarded the accolade of World’s Best Bar just two days after announcing that it would be closing its doors. The bar, from world famous mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana a.k.a.’d as Mr Lyan, announced on Instagram that it would be shutting its doors on its fourth birthday, though no specific date has yet been given.
Commenting, Chetiyawardana explained “it feels fitting on our 4th birthday to kill off our now-eldest venue… it makes sense to burn it down, start afresh, and rise again as something brighter, shinier and more fitting of where we’re now at”, which means that while we only have a short time to enjoy what is officially the world’s best bar, there is the prospect of something even bigger and better to come.
But if you can’t wait that long, fear not. London also plays host to the world’s second best bar. And the fifth best bar. And sixth best bar.
So why not experience the The American Bar at The Savoy? Rated the world’s second best bar. Or The Connaught Bar, the world’s fifth best bar? Or, indeed, Termini Bar over on Old Compton Street. We are well served while we wait for Mr Lyan to come up with his next concept.
