Christmas is coming! Pack away your summer wardrobe, adjust the thermostat and dig out some mittens. Oh, and get tickets for Taste of London.
The festive edition of Taste of London is now only a month away, and our favourite food festival will transform East London’s Tobacco Dock into a Christmassy haven for the discerning foodie. The event will bring together 19 leading restaurants, food and drink brands along with chefs, shops and showmen in a whirl of masterclasses, menus and mayhem over four days of indulgence. It quite literally is the perfect start to the Christmas season.
Restaurant highlights include the likes of Barbecoa, Jamie Oliver’s BBQ joint; Rohit Ghai’s new Indian restaurant Kutir and the home of homemade pasta, Nona Tonda. The genius of Taste is that guests are able to piece together their perfect tasting menu. Roam between the restaurants and assemble your bucket-list meal. Perhaps a starter from Soho Sri Lankan restaurant Hoppers, some vegan Mexican small plates from Club Mexicana and a main course grabbed at Basque experts Sagardi, or maybe our favourite Taiwanese, BAO. Your cheese course must come courtesy of The Cheese Bar and if you’ve room for pudding check out Pleese cakes.
As well as eating your way through Taste, the festival is a place to learn as well. Watch as DJ BBQ headlines the renowned Fire Pit in association with Food Network. Or join the Head Chef of Ottolenghi’s new restaurant, Rovi, Neil Campbell, as he barbecues up some seasonal veg. If the Fire Pit isn’t draw enough (and with restauranteurs from Berber and Q, Hoppers, Cora Pearl and The Laughing Heart in attendance, it should be), then head to one of the masterclasses. Tanqueray Gin will unveil a gin terrace revealing the unique process that goes into making their gin (and then help you make the perfect G&T), while there’s also a Cocktails at Home masterclass and the ‘World Class’ bar, giving you the chance to purchase and try world-class cocktails. Whether you’re in the ‘whisky room’ or Ketel One Vodka’s urban kitchen with its resident kitchen DJ, there’s plenty to enjoy.
Alongside all the tasting, seeing and doing there’s also shopping, with over 100 sought-after artisianal food and drink producers including Burley Fudge, producing handmade fudge, the organic and sustainable Beronia Wines, as well as the award winning Cornish Cheese Co.
Round the experience off on Saturday night, as DJ BBQ serves hot dogs and hot tunes for a two hour DJ set before enjoying the return of Deco Noir Piano Man who promises to get everyone into the festive spirit.
