Does your daily routine include popping into a high street coffee store to grab a corporate-branded cup of brown liquid? If so, then think again, because there’s a new matcha coffee bar opening and it’s going to beat any Costa Coffee skinny latte hands down.
Matcha And Beyond has just opened on The King’s Road and is one of only a small handful of matcha bars in London. Situated next to Chelsea Town Hall this is the place for all your matcha needs. Matcha, which is made from a finely ground powder made from green tea leaves, is a Japanese delicacy and wellness drink, enjoyed by everyone from Zen Buddhist monks to, now, busy Londoners.
Matcha And Beyond’s drinks menu will work just like a coffee shop, walk in and order your favourite matcha drink, with various milk options like flat green, matchachinio and, of course, latte. Matcha being matcha, there’s two grades of tea, one exceptionally high grade, used in Japan for ceremonial matcha shots, and premium drinking grade for their milk-based drinks. There’s also coffee, should anyone need it.
Beyond drinks, there’ll be food on offer, in the form of signature matcha treats, as well as the usual coffee shop fare. Breakfast options include porridge, coconut or Greek yoghurt which can be customised by customers with the likes of granola, seasonal fruits and so on. Lunches of healthy salads and sandwiches will be plentiful, and if you want to undo all the goodness of a matcha tea and salad, fear not: there’ll be home-baked cookies, green velvet cake, march and vanilla marble cake or matcha energy balls.
So hang up your massive Starbucks mug, sling the Nero’s card, head down to Matcha And Beyond.
