The Disney Exhibition That Doesn’t Take The Mickey
No we’re not taking the mick, there really is an art exhibition en route dedicated solely to Mickey Mouse. More good news? It’s free, so Disney fans can go along in their truck loads. The Shoreditch-based exhibition named Mickey’s UK Art Collective comes as a result of 90, (yes 90) years of Mickey Mouse which, we’re sure, is enough to make anyone feel old. The work on show will feature 12-UK based artists who have ruffled up Mickey’s appearance somewhat to match the contrasting periods of his lifetime, including one of our favourite pesky mouse blowing out his 90th birthday candle!
The two tasked with finding their fellow painters are Jimmy C, the face behind some of the most famous pieces of David Bowie artwork, and Michael Bosanko renowned for his street art. Commissioned to create a piece for Mickey’s 90th they then invited 10 other artists along to join the party. The other artists include Ashton Attzs, a painter and poet, Jazz Stan who fuses together fine art techniques and Alexandra Krusberg praised for her linework.
Other exhibitions to celebrate the little chaps birthday include a huge one in NYC. The #MickeyTrueOriginal exhibition is an immersive celebration, boasting a 16,000 square-foot exhibition featuring both historic and contemporary work from renowned artists, and has seen celebs donning their best Mickey looks.
Don your party hats and come to the exhibition for free, at 74 Rivington Street in Shoreditch, a 7 minute walk from the High Street station and nine minutes from Old Street. Tickets for the final slot can be found here, and go live this morning (14th of November), for the remaining Sunday session on the 18th of November, 7-8pm.
