Whether we’re finding you the perfect place to grab dinner (hello, the new SUSHISAMBA), the optimum holiday destinations (looking at you, Maldives) or just letting you in on what’s hot, new or interesting (it’s all about winter terraces and igloos right now), The Handbook is there for all the big and small decisions in life. And probably one of your biggest is how and where to educate your child. If you want an Oscar-nominated child prodigy actor, like Eddie Redmayne or Benedict Cumberbatch, maybe plump for Eton or Harrow, if you want a social climbing princess-to-be, Marlborough seems to be en-pointe. Either way, the question is exactly which school should you pack off little Rufus or Jemima to?
And therein lies the puzzle, finding the right school is really tricky. There’s a myriad of choice. Just as you can’t simply plant a flower in any old climate or soil, choosing the right school for your son or daughter is key to them thriving. If only there was a place where you could meet and vet potential schools to help prepare for one of the most important decisions of their lives.
There is. The Independent Schools Show. The event, held at the Evolution Centre at Battersea Park, is a chance for parents to meet over 200 independent schools from nurseries through to sixth form.
The show is a vital tool for any parent as it brings together some of the most famous names in education, the likes of Harrow, Marlborough or Wellington, as well as smaller or more specialist schools that might be more suited to particular children, or, indeed, budgets. Having such choice on display offers parents a chance to really understand the differences.
So if this is something that might be relevant for your child, do head to Battersea this weekend.
The Independent Schools Show takes place this weekend, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th November at Battersea Evolution, Battersea Park, Battersea, SW8 4NW
