The aparthotel is that hybrid of London living that brings together all the best bits of a hotel with the freedom of an Airbnb. You won’t need to re-mortgage your house to afford a night’s stay but you also won’t have to sleep in someone else’s minuscule flat.

The latest aparthotel to arrive in the city is The Moorgate from SACO, The Serviced Apartment Company which is the same team behind Leman Locke. Having opened at the end of 2018, SACO has seamlessly created the style and standard of hospitality you’d expect of an intimate hotel but with the space and freedom of renting your own apartment.

Made up of 27 studios and one-bedroom apartments across four floors, you can tailor your stay in the city to your exact needs. With no minimum stay and the ability to live in the apartment for as long as you need, The Moorgate provides you with independent living in an enviable address within the Square Mile.

The Grade II listed building was once an office, not that you’d know it, because it is seriously luxe. Aparthotel might not sound the most elegant, but this certainly is. They’ve carefully retained many of the period features such as the high ceilings, sash windows and fireplaces giving it that boutique feel whilst also adding in modern, custom-made furniture by Gubi and Saba Italia, lighting by Flos and artwork by Artiq. With a colour scheme of white walls, dusty pinks, blues, soft greys and brass finishes there’s an understated luxury running throughout and it’s seriously Instagrammable. One of the benefits of having your own apartment is the independent freedom to work or relax and The Moorgate has done just that, creating a private haven from the world outside. There’s super-fast, free Wi-Fi, Smart TV’s with Google Chromecasts for entertainment and of course elegant but oh-so-comfy sofas to slump in front of said TV’s. The sumptuous double beds make for a fabulous nights sleep, further enhanced by every apartment being fully sound proofed from floor to ceiling. This means you won’t have to listen to the guests in the room next door watching TV loudly, and you won’t have a night time soundtrack of sirens.

Each apartment has a functional yet stylish kitchen with appliances provided by SMEG, giving you the freedom to host guests for meetings, dinner parties or to just cook that late night snack. That said, if eating out is more your thing then you’ve got some of London’s best restaurants and bars only a few minutes’ walk away including The Ned, SUSHISAMBA and Duck & Waffle.

The end result is that every apartment provides an urban oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city below, allowing you to really shut the door and shut out the world below.

Whether you’re looking for a flexible place to stay whilst working in town or you’re visiting as a tourist, then do so whilst staying at your very own pied à terre in the city.
