What do the British love about summer? Well, aside from the obvious – ahem, Love Island – there’s also the prospect of a bit of good old fashioned sunshine and the ability to dine al-fresco. And, pandering to the latter is Le Cordon Bleu, as they introduce their first Summer Festival event on Saturday 29th June, which will see Brits swapping burnt BBQ sausages with a serve of some seriously high-end cooking.
Le Cordon Bleu London, founded in Paris all the way back in 1895, is a stickler for culinary prowess, as the largest network of hospitality schools in the world. Alas, hopes are high for their summer bash which will play host to a series of cooking demonstrations from big names. Begin your day by topping up on wine from one of three tasting interactive and detailed sessions with Master Sommelier Matthieu Longuere, before heading to watch chefs in action including Asma Khan, who featured in Netflix Chef’s Table, Rakesh Nair of Cinammon Club, Kerth Gumbs of Ormer Mayfair and many more!
You can also indulge your taste buds in a handful of practical workshops at the hands of Le Cordon Bleu alumni. Like a fine wine, Le Cordon Bleu has got better with age, turning from a Parisian cooking school to an internationally renowned network, striving to achieve excellence through practice and refinement. The name-dropping list of alumni includes Julia Child, Peggy Porschen, Yotam Ottolenghi, Mary Berry, Virgilio Martinez and Tess Ward, to name a few.
Joining the Summer Festival line-up will be some of the industry’s most established professionals with culinary prowess strong enough to set a kitchen alight with energy and creation. Names included in the list are Sarju Ranavaya a pastry chef at The Taste Lab, with accolades of fifth place in the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie 2019 and Best Artistic Chocolate Showpiece at the UK Pastry Open 2019 to his name. As well as Joo Won, Head Chef at the Michelin-starred Galvin at Windows and Olivia Burt, a Sous Chef at Claridges Hotel.
The chefs in attendance, ready to rustle up a storm of moreish treats at the festival, provide knowledge and skills from the famed Le Cordon Bleu diplomas in Cuisine. Le Cordon Bleu London, founded in Paris all the way back in 1895, is a stickler for culinary prowess, as the largest network of hospitality schools in the world. Willing you to pursue your foodie dreams, the institution calls for cooks and bakers, beginners through to advanced, to build their careers with the help of various culinary courses. Perhaps a day at the Summer Festival will entice you to enrol!
And, because Le Cordon Bleu recognise that no foodie fest is complete without treats to takeaway, there’ll be a Slow Food Market running throughout the day with various suppliers and producers on hand to create a feast for the eyes and bellies. Participants include the likes of Haye Organic Farm, Brambletye Biodynamic Farm, The Tomato Stall, Hiver Beers, O’Shea’s Butchers, Hook & Son Raw Organic Milk, Bath Soft Cheese Co., Cannon & Cannon, Kitty’s Kombucha and more! The motley crew will help you stock up on goods that recognise principles of Slow Food: ‘Good, Clean and Fair.
