Mamma Mia, here we go again… Love it or hate it, we all know the words to pretty much every ABBA song, and whether or not we admit it we find it impossible to stop ourselves crooning into our hairbrush every time Dancing Queen comes on on the airwaves. So no wonder that the Mamma Mia film franchise has become so lucrative, every day there’s a new Mamma Mia pop-up to add to the diary and for the hardcore fans, this one’s going to be the best, The O2 are opening a Mamma Mia inspired restaurant.
It’s time to ‘take a chance’ on those trusty ol’ flares you’ve still got knocking around from your younger days and his the ultimate 70s party. MAMMA MIA! THE PARTY has been created by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, and this year it returns for what will be its fourth sold-out year. The five hour, three-course Mediterranean meal plus an ABBA disco you won’t be forgetting anytime soon, and that’ll leave you humming the tunes the rest of the week.
Having originally opened in Stockholm back in 2016, the London version is comprised of music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus – with some even from their old manager Stig Anderson. You’ll be transported to the Greek island of Skopelos as you step through the doors of Niko’s Taverna at The O2. With Mediterranean flavours filling the air, ouzo being cheers’d at every table plus singing and, of course, dancing, to all of ABBA’s greatest hits, there’s one thing left on your mind. How many times it is humanly possible to hear ‘Mamma Mia, here we go again!’ before it becomes somewhat haunting?
Romantic and humorous stories told through dialogue and ABBA songs will unfold throughout the evening while fans (and loved ones who are being dragged along) dig into a Greek feast – we’re sure it’ll be oozing with cheesy goodness and lathered in olive oil, yum! End the evening with a groove on the dance floor like a real dancing queen as the main floor is transformed into a 1970s disco. Fans are encouraged to stay along, sing and dance to original ABBA recordings.
