Get out your calendars and mark June 2020 because it just became one of the most anticipated months of next year. More than 150 years after Lewis Carroll wrote his beloved book following Alice down the rabbit hole, the Victoria and Albert Museum is launching a grand exhibit dedicated to Alice in Wonderland. Where did the idea for Alice in Wonderland come from? What are the hidden meanings behind the characters? Where could her story lead next? Explore some of the biggest questions and lose yourself in this breathtaking experience based on the famous tale.

Join the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, Alice herself and all your other favourite characters as they come to life in a ‘mind-bending journey’ at the V&A. This exhibit explores the classic, the mysterious, and the eccentric interpretations of Alice in Wonderland and it delves into how Carroll’s novel became one of the most fascinating tales of all time.

Alice’s story has seen several adaptations and explanations over the years and the V&A promises to acknowledge them all. You’ll see the classic Alice sketches from illustrator John Tenniel, the first versions of the artwork for the iconic Disney film, and an array of fashion and photography collections. Salvador Dali’s infamous surrealist sketches of the characters will be on display, along with other odd interpretations of the story. Even the most obsessed fans will find something they haven’t seen before at this unique event.

This inspiring exhibition will fully immerse visitors with its outstanding staging, blowing the mind and tugging the heartstrings. The setup also includes a collaboration with The Australian Centre for the Moving Image to look specifically at Alice in the film world. The ACMI’s own 2018 exhibition, titled Wonderland, garnered lots of positive media attention and reviews, and the V&A says it intends to go above and beyond even that.

Well, that leaves little else to say but enjoy the exhibition which, we guarantee, will put a smile on your face as big as the Cheshire cats!

The exhibition opens June 27th 2020 and runs to January 10th 2021. Tickets go on sale next spring, so save the date and you shall not be late!
