You thought dining at La Gavroche or The Ritz was the height of sophistication? What about Wagamama? Ummmm.
Chipotle, Bababoom, Wagamama and Joe Public have all teamed up with Deliveroo to launch the UK’s first helicopter restaurant. Which is a restaurant, in, well you get the idea. And it’s both ‘the height’ (1,000 ft of it) and ‘of sophistication’ (it’s in a luxury helicopter FFS!).
Cruising at twice the height of the UK’s tallest restaurant (Duck & Waffle, a midget at only 574ft), this dining experience will put a totally new spin on the phrase ‘fast food’ as you zip around town in the 20-minute flight. Starting out at the Battersea helipad, you’ll be given a quick safety briefing (chicken katsu can be deadly) and then soar over Battersea Power Station, past The Shard and up to the O2 before following the river back to Battersea.
Dubbed ‘Roocopter One’ (coz Deliveroo), the charter, courtesy of Charter-A helicopters, will offer a dining experience like no other as you enjoy takeaway food in a unique setting normally reserved for hedge fund managers and football stars.
Currently they’re just testing things out, the cost to provide this service is an estimated £149 per person, though it’s free in its initial trial. Deliveroo say they’re looking at utilising helicopters to deliver to remote areas (which sounds a little spurious given the enormous cost), but nevertheless, the marketing potential of skimming across the London skyline clearly is making it worth it, and it can be be for you too as they’re offering the chance to win £10 Deliveroo vouchers to anyone taking a photo and tagging it #Roocopter on Friday 9th August when the first trial begins.
The trial itself has entirely sold out, but for the chance for a free seat on 9th August sign up for the waitlist here. Otherwise, wait for the service to be permanently launched…
