The festival season is well underway. If your idea of absolute horror involves roasting in a drooping dome tent, wading through human effluence and standing behind 50,000 drunks to catch a glimpse of an obscure headliner, then thank goodness there’s another way to do it. How about a Jessie J and Tinie Tempah gig, plus one of the best day’s racing in the sporting calendar, all in the plush surroundings of one of the most iconic venues in the country? Put away the mozzie spray and antiseptic wipes, we’re going to Ascot.
Ascot racecourse really does pull out all the stops when it comes to putting on a party. And the Jessie J gig on August 10th isn’t even the main event! The real show will be a day packed with excellent racing, courtesy of the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup. And even in the glittering array of racing events it’s something special.
Unusually, the day takes the form of a team competition across a thrilling six-race showdown as some of the world’s best jockeys battle it out in this unique competition. The teams, who will be meeting for the 19th year running, are Great Britain and Ireland versus Europe, The Rest of the World and The Girls (who won last year). The teams are all made up of three world-renowned riders, and they all will race at least five times for their respective teams throughout the afternoon. Points will be awarded to the first five horses to complete the races and the team to have collected the most points after the sixth and final race will win the coveted Shergar Cup. The best individual jockey wins the Silver Saddle trophy.
It’s going to be thrilling and competitive, so expect to become very involved and animated! Which you can do across a range of ticket options, including the usual array of hospitality options (including fine dining packages), not to mention at any number of food outlets, bars and restaurants. There’s even a free fun fair with exhilarating rides; ride between races to maximise the excitement of the day.
And expect the excitement to continue into the night, because once the final furlong has been run, the fun goes on. International stars Jessie J and Tiny Tempah will be joined by Radio One Extra DJ Charlesy and ’80s pop legends Go West for a unique party experience. So swap the festival experience, with all its canvas and muddy downsides, for a day’s racing and a-lister headlined gig at the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup & Concert.
The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup & Concert takes place on Saturday 10th August, book your tickets here…, they start at a very reasonable £37 per person.
