Fancy a royal slice of cake? Well we can’t quite promise you’ll be chomping your way through Meghan and Harry’s ol’ wedding cake (it’d probably be a little stale by now anyway…) but the Hackney bakery behind the royal’s cake is set to open a larger site, and they’re bringing the wine!
Having first sprung into the limelight in the spring of 2018 after Kensington Palace revealed owner Claire Ptak would be curating the wedding cake for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the east London bakery-café, Violet Cakes, has recently announced it’ll be embarking on its latest endeavour in Hackney Central. Eeek!
So, what do we know so far?
The bakery will be spreading its wings and nesting a much larger sit in Hackney Central early next year. Nuzzled on the corner of Westgate Street and Mare Street, the potential name for this new venture is ‘Violet Corner’ (which makes sense thanks to its lucky corner location).
The two-floor site is set to have space for 70 to 75 royalist fans (and let’s face it, it’s going to be patriotic lovers, influencers and press running through the doors on opening day hoping to snap up the first Instas’) and we’re expecting it’ll be staying open late into the evening if there’s some juicy wine on the menu.
We can all rest easy knowing the woman in charge of bringing the sweet, sweet vino and tantalisingly good cocktails to the venue is Anna Frost from Columbia Road’s Brawn. Woohoo, bring on the hazey Monday morning heads…
But, if you’re wondering what tasty treats will be coming your way, we’re told to expect a whole lotta Violet Bakery signature cakes (yes!) as well as lunchtime staples – we’re talking to you cheese toastie! And a few quiche and salad options thrown in for good measure. The opening of Violet Corner will mark ten years since the birth of Violet Cakes, which is a pretty big deal, so we’ve no doubt Violet Corner is going to come with one hell of a bang! Just watch this space…
