Tooting is special. I’m just going to say it. Famously named as one of the coolest places in the world according to Lonely Planet (an accolade that, admittedly, took this South West London community by surprise as much as it did by delight), there’s everything to celebrate. And Tooting will be doing just that this weekend in the form of Tootopoia.

Now in its seventh year, the annual weekend festival celebrates the very best of Tooting’s local businesses, with its serious foodie scene stage-front, all of which makes Tooting the place to be this weekend. Billed as an ‘epic food, drink and culture festival’, expect Tooting to buzz with all the latest players in the two covered markets and beyond.

To say that Tooting is vibrant is, even at the most drab of times, an understatement. But during Tootopia things in this Northern Line outpost get even more lively.

On the food and drink front, ground zero has to be Broadway and Tooting Markets, with their wealth of original foodie outlets. Try New Orleans themed Bayou Bar, serving up crawfish from noon until night on Sunday, speed wine tasting at Unwined, gin and beer tastings at Craft Tooting or get ready to dance as Tooting’s oldest indoor market turns dance floor into the early hours as DJ Smokey takes hits the decks.

It’s not just the market that’ll be teaming with life, local pubs like The Wheatsheaf, The Antelope, Graveney & Meadow and The Selkirk will be hosting events from comedy to retro gaming, there will be historic tours of the area (Tooting has a lot of history), a craft fair, theatre tour of Tooting’s Grade-1-listed bingo hall, and that’s just the start of it.

Tootopia, it’s like Utopia, but in Tooting and runs from Friday 20th until Sunday 23rd September.
