Pret a Portea The Berkeley afternoon tea

Move aside London Fashion Week, this is the cakewalk we’ve all got our eyes peeled for. Yes, returneth the much-awaited Prêt-à-Portea afternoon tea, that is received with such excitement and rumbling tummies each year.

The Berkeley has unveiled its Autumn/ Winter 19 edition, with delightful couture cakes by designers from Moschino to Fendi and Emilia Wickstead, each flaunting some seriously popping summer shades.

Amongst the bold head-turners are Molly Goddard’s finale dress, which appears alongside the Jacquemus micro handbag that took the industry by storm, and fashion insiders who are used to strutting stuff will be co-creating a final cake with Head of Pastry Mourad Khiat, monthly. Said fashion insider will design the cake around a treasured moment or item; from a piece in their wardrobe to a hero look from one of their shows. We can’t cake our eyes off some the amazing pieces…

In 2018, the delicious banquet featured a Victoria Beckham based offering in the form of a Victoria sponge (Berkeley, we see what you did there) inspired by Victoria Beckham’s legs-out-of-a-shopping-bag 10th anniversary campaign. And, in 2017 pastry chef Mourad Khiat created Gianduja chocolate mousse garnished with an individual farfalle pasta bow (Dolce & Gabbana) and a chequered chocolate and vanilla Battenburg cake inspired by Stella McCartney’s covetable chequerboard summer pumps. However we think this year’s collection might just trump the last. Eek, we said it!

This year, Moschino will appear as a velvet pistachio and mascarpone cream delice with a salted crumble base, topped with a sugar one-million dollar bill, whilst Fendi sashays in with all of its lemon sablé biscuit goodness, paying homage to and portraying the buttercup yellow raincoat from Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection.

Next, sink your teeth into Emilia Wickstead’s red velvet gown, something we never quite thought we’d say. The piece is inspired by The Godfather and consists of red croustillon-covered choux bun, filled with Gianduja crémeux and roasted macadamia nuts. And, one for the Killing Eve fans (um, so like, everyone?), you can indulge in a Killing Eve costume showstopper by Molly Goddard. We’re talking 100 metres of neon netting transformed into pink spun sugar encasing a cinnamon financier filled with Pink Lady apple mousse and apple compote. OK, OK, stop, our mouths are watering…

The Autumn Winter 2019 Prêt-à-Portea collection launches on 1st October, served from 1pm – 5.30pm every day and includes a glass of Champers or Mango and Rooibos mocktail.

All that’s left to say is Prêt-à-Portea, we’ll never dessert you… Reserve your spot here!
