Forget Hamilton, Fleabag is dead to me, the hottest theatre ticket of 2020 is… Sister Act. Sure, it’s basic AF, Checkov is spinning in his grave and theatre critics are already sharpening their pencils, but Sister Act is a modern masterpiece and what’s more, the West End production will feature non other than actual Whoopi Goldberg and real life Jennifer Saunders.

The musical follows the same story as the film, with lounge singer and mobster’s moll Deloris (Whoopi) being taken into witness protection at Saint Katherine’s Parish convent. Hilarity ensues as she plays cat-and-mouse with the Mother Superior (Saunders) and becomes an unlikely music tutor and role model to the convent’s tone-deaf choir. Set to a score of original music from the movie by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, expect to toe-tap your way through both acts and the entire rest of August.

To have one of Britain’s best loved comic actors centre stage is reason enough to book tickets right away, that she’s joined not only by Hollywood royalty, but by the actor who defined the role, if not the early ’90s makes it essential .

Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo plays host and tickets, which are on sale now are proving incredibly popular despite topping out at over an unholy £200 for the best seats, a fact that has been met with more than a little criticism. But at the time of writing, there are plenty of £29 tickets still available.

The show, currently slated for a limited run of just one month between 29th July and 30th August, is the event of summer. Book now before we have to write a ‘how to get tickets to this sold out show‘ type article.
