You might think London has been looking a little bare since Twelfth Night but when it comes to winter lights, you haven’t seen anything yet. This January will see the return of Canary Wharf’s award-winning Winter Lights and, boy, are we excited!
Banishing rumours that Christmas is the only time that London sparkles, Canary Wharf’s winter display is set to return for a sixth year with an entrance. Come Thursday 16th January the show will be mesmerising Londoners once again with its incredible must-see light display that’ll break your phone with beauty.
Canary Wharf will be armed with a 340 metre display of neon and LED glowing lights flowing through Jubilee Park, glistening trees and blooming flowers illuminating the streets and a four metre high ‘Mountain of Light’ (whatever that means…)
It’s all in celebration of the most innovative and iconic global artists working within the light art realm today, so we can expect some suave UK premieres on the horizon too, including mahoosive touchable foam clouds crafted by UAll Studios and Joanie Lemercier’s Constellations, a series of 3D visual projections displayed through a gigantic water screen.
To guide you along the Winter Lights magical journey, you’ll find a downloadable map on the website or you can pick up one on the day, which will show you each showstopper installation and a little information about each of the exceptional pieces. You can also expect to find a hub of street food stalls on hand that’ll ensure you stay warm and fuelled throughout the day.
The festival has become a platform for European artists to gather and come together over their love of light. The result? The dazzling displays we see before us, showing the flexibility light has to illuminate even the most unexpected of places.
Excited? Us too! To give you an idea of what you can expect, here’s a little look at last year’s spectacular show.
