Every year we all have that one song that seems to end up soundtracking your whole summer. As soon as the warmer weather hits, the volume on your Sonos speaker is cranked up to high as you entertain guests for barbecues and summer dinner parties outside. And there’s always one song that works its way onto every playlist, becoming ‘that’ song of that summer.

Whether you’re after new music that’s in the charts or some golden oldies to see you through the summer, we’ve rounded up our eight favourite Spotify playlists guaranteed to put a bounce in your step.

Barack Obama’s 2021 Summer Playlist

Every year since the beginning of time (well, since 2015 at least), former US president Barack Obama has released his favourite songs of the summer. And every year the world goes wild as soon as it drops, with this year being no different.

Obama’s 2021 Summer Playlist is packed with old songs, new tunes and everything in between. Expect everything from George Harrison’s ‘My Sweet Lord’ and Joni Mitchell’s ‘Coyote’ to Drake ft. Lil Baby’s ‘Wants and Needs’ and Nezi’s ‘So Hard’. Fans were even appeased to find out Obama gets down to the TikTok favourite, ‘Astronaut in the Ocean’ by Masked Wolf.

Lofi Summer Haze

Listening to Spotify lofi playlists is how I find some of my favourite, rising artists. It’s a space where you can really find new, unsung heroes before they get their ‘break’, somewhere to find them before they are deemed ‘cool’ if you will.

This summer you’ll find me cracking on with Spotify’s Lofi Summer Haze playlist. Boasting 100 songs and 4hours 15minutes of airplay, it’s packed with bright sounds and raspy vocals. Spend your summer listening to the likes of Wall Giant, Kid Gnasher, K9 Division and Hi Hotel.

Team Sunshine

When the sun is beaming, what better playlist to soundtrack your barbecue than Spotify’s Team Sunshine. It’s packed with dreamy solos, hearty hits and lyrics that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head.

This summer they are prescribing the likes of Biig Piig’s ‘Sunny’, Gemma Dunleavy’s ‘Up De Flats’, Harry Styles’ ‘Sunflower, Vol. 6’ and Alfie Templeman’s ‘Happiness in Liquid Form’.

Sounds of Love Island

It feels a little cringe adding this one into the list, but unashamedly it’s actually packed with 200 songs that are catchy and worth listening to (well, at least half of them anyway).

If you’ve ever wondered what your favourite Love Islanders are listening to, then worry not as this is the official playlist for Love Island 2021. Connect your Bluetooth headphones, crank up the volume and dance your way into the office with the likes of The Pussycat Dolls, Tones And I, Holly Humberstone and Dua Lipa soundtracking your commute.

My life is a movie

I’ve expressed my love for this playlist before but it really might be my favourite playlist of all time. Whatever my mood, Spotify’s my life is a movie playlist somehow always knows how to hit the spot.

Boasting over 660,000 likes and 75 songs to skate, walk or dance along to, there’s something for every main character out there. Expect the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Field Guide, Empire of the Sun, Lorde and Olivia Rodrigo.

Summer Hits of the 70s

There’s no denying that the 70s had some great hits. Impeccable hits in fact. Let the Summer Hits of the 70s soundtrack your life this summer season and delight in all time classics and golden oldies.

You’ll find yourself gushing over the likes of Stevie Wonder, ABBA, Joni Mitchell, Bee Gees and The Rolling Stones.

If you’re in need of some serotonin boosting blasters, look no further than Spotify’s aptly titled Serotonin playlist. They’ve cracked the code of instantly boosting your mood in a matter of minutes, laid out over 50 songs and 3hours 15minutes of sounds.

They’ve packed in the Bee Gees, Jay Faded, Colour Castle, Jayda G and Grimes. There might only be 50 tunes but they are packed with 100% good vibes.

Summer Camp

With many of us holidaying a little closer to home this year, we’ve found the perfect playlist that’s sure to entertain the whole family when you’re cuddled up toasting marshmallows around the campfire or jumping into the Cornish sea.

Curated with little ears in mind, this playlist is packed full of family-friendly favourites. You’ll all be listening to Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band’s ‘Lemonade Stand’, D. Jay’s ‘Shine on Me’, ‘SUMMERTIME!’ by The Aquabats! and Sunny Day’s ‘Surfin’ and Sunnin’’.
