In partnership with Marussia Beverages UK

If you’re dreaming of a summer getaway to Japan but haven’t been able to jet off in time to soak up the cherry blossom season, we’ve found the next best thing. You’ll be glad to know it doesn’t involve a hefty plane fare…

Bringing a slice of Japanese hospitality to the table is The Ivy Asia and their special partnership with the UK’s leading artisanal spirits business, Marussia Beverages UK. They’ve teamed up to give diners the opportunity to experience the Japanese concept of hanami, a time when families and friends gather around to eat and drink under the blossom. Sounds picturesque doesn’t it?

The partnership, running until 7th June, will be at The Ivy Asia’s London, Manchester and Guildford venues. It allows Marussia Beverages UK the chance to showcase their Artisanal Japanese portfolio – Akashi-Tai Sake, Hatozaki Whisky and 135° East Gin – while offering diners the chance to sip cocktails and enjoy a unique sake and sushi pairing menu.

So what can you expect?

A celebration of the sakura season will be in full force showcased through the sake and sushi pairing menu. Diners who book in can look forward to yellowtail sashimi with fresh truffle salad that pairs beautifully with the bright and tart notes from the Akashi-Tai Ginjo Yuzushu or the Akashi-Tai Junma Ginjo Sparkling is recommended with the salmon three ways – think nigiri, tartare and spicy rolls –  to complement the light fruitiness of the dish.

The table crowd pleaser is of course the seared wagyu beef and barbecue glaze roll. Expect notes of plum from the Akashi-Tai Umeshu Plum to pair brilliantly with the BBQ and rich wagyu flavours.

For the cocktail lovers, The Ivy cocktail creator Jean Vital has been busy creating a bespoke cocktail menu, featuring the likes of the Hanami Lady, a blend of 135° East Gin, Sakura Vermouth, William Fox Cherry Blossom Syrup, lime juice and lychee juice; Kaikyo Straits, a delicate mix of Hatozaki Blended Japanese Whisky, Akashi-Tau Yuzushu, Cocchi di Torino and Aperol; and the Notes of Ikigai, which blends Akashi-Tai Honjozo Kuro Sake, Creme D’Apricot, ginger syrup and supasawa.

Set to the backdrop of pink foliage, blossom tree and blossom-filled ceilings, this sake and pairing menu and the cocktails is perfect for those looking to be whisked away to Japan in an instant.

The partnership is running until 07.06.2022, available at The Ivy Asia in London, Guildford and Manchester
