Summer 2021 has been billed the summer of the drive-in cinema, but there are drawbacks. Firstly you’re in your car so you’re probably not boozing. Second you’re in your car, so eating without getting ketchup on your seat fabric and so on is tricky. Thirdly you’re in your car. Well now there’s an alternative. How about a boat-in?
The Openaire Float-in Cinema by Häagen-Dazs launches next month and involves a 45 minute boat ride down the Regent’s Canal followed by a feature film as you bob in your boat enjoying the movie and, you guessed it, Häagen-Dazs ice cream.
Openaire have also teamed up with the folks from GoBoats to provide a fleet of 16 of their vessels along with 100 deckchairs for shore based viewing.
The result is summer evenings filled with classic films every Wednesday to Sunday night, starting at the beginning of June.
Films includes Pulp Fiction, Jaws (ideal boat-viewing), and The Dark Knight...
Punters will be furnished with high quality wireless headphones, presumably so the neighbours don’t complain but also guaranteeing great sound quality, and the ice cream in the most popular Häagen-Dazs flavours will be magic-ed up at the touch of a button.
The line-up of films includes Pulp Fiction, Jaws (ideal boat-viewing), and The Dark Knight, or if you’re looking for something to sing along to Bohemian Rhapsody, Grease, The Greatest Showman and The Sound of Music will be on offer.
And because this is, let’s face it, perfect date territory, rom-coms including Notting Hill, Pretty Woman, and Dirty Dancing and Bridget Jones’ Diary will be showing too.
Bookings for the floating cinema experience are open and the experience begins on 2nd June.
