The weekend is back! Oh how we missed it. If it’s creeped up on you and you’re scrambling to find somewhere to take your visiting in-laws or pals for their 30th birthday, we’ve found 12 exciting events going on in and around the city.

From design markets to pop-up fashion festivals, here’s what to plan this weekend… 

Start Christmas shopping in style at this design market 

If you’re one of those organised souls who likes to get their Christmas shopping bought, wrapped and ready by the end of September, then you’ll want to hit up The Royal Exchange and The Makers’ Market this weekend. 

To celebrate London Design Festival and the building’s milestone 125th anniversary, The Royal Exchange will be hosting The Markers’ Market this weekend, a platform for design-led brands and makers to exhibit their handcrafted products in a fun pop-up space. 

Running until 24th September, there will be several exhibitors popping up, including Blackpop, Rekha Maker LTD, Hung Studio, Wyatt & Jack, Studio Mito and Samantha Sweet.

Explore East London’s pop-up fashion festival

Fashionistas, listen up. This weekend sees the launch of the Fashion Districts Fashion Festival, a five-day celebration of sustainability and innovation in the fashion industry. 

Over the five days there’ll be multiple events going on across east London, from their pop-up shop at Westfield to weaving workshops, upcycling jewellery classes to panel talks with rising stars in the fashion world.

Party it up like Springsteen as this club night

Club nights are back with vengeance, and this weekend we’ve found one that’s jam packed with the rock icon himself – Springsteen. Running this Saturday night, Hungry Heart events will be packing out Oval Space with his big hits, B sides and everything in between all to celebrate Springteen’s birthday. 

Spread over an epic seven hours, the club night will feel as though you are rocking out at one of Springsteen’s legendary gigs, filled with live versions, big sounds and even a few slowies for those wanting to slow dance with their dates.

Get your culture fix in Covent Garden

This September sees Covent Garden getting a whole lot cooler. They’ve launched a colour of creativity campaign, packed with an exciting immersive neon art installation by Chila Burman, beauty workshops, live entertainment at Balthazar and art installations. 

If you haven’t already caught Burman’s installation, it’s centred around the theme of love and identity, and sees the artist draw on her Hindu Punjabi heritage through light sculptures and uplifting messages. Expect her signature bright statement designs, from peacocks and snakes to flowers and tigers, as well as positive affirmations and collages to fill the space. 

Restaurants including SUSHISAMBA, The Ivy Market Grill and Darjeeling Express will be showcasing new innovative dishes and drinks menus alongside the cultural campaign too.

Span the works of Paula Rego 

Spread across over 100 works, explore the life and artistry of Paula Rego in Tate Britain’s latest exhibition. It’s the UK’s largest retrospective of revolutionary artists, retelling her story through its link to Rego’s personality as well as documenting the socio-political changes throughout her life.

Expect large collages, paintings, pastels, ink and pencil sketches.

Catch the last of the summer sun at Bubba Oasis’ Rooftop Terrace

Sing your heart out at Lola’s 

Calling all budding singers (or anyone who just wants to have a wild night), The Hippodrome Casino has partnered with the musical-sing along haunt Overtunes Piano Bar to bring an exciting new immersive entertainment experience to Lola’s, the venue’s underground cabaret bar. 

Running every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, the action packed singing sessions will be an absolute blast, with the evening shaped solely to your liking. You can expect unplanned show tune singing – so no awkward setlist timings, stages or microphones.

Head down to Battersea Power Station’s street party 

If you haven’t already read the exciting news, the Northern Line has been extended so you can now whizz on over to Battersea Power Station more easily! To celebrate, they are hosting a two-day street festival filled with live street art, live music, exclusive offers and street food pop-ups. 

The street party, running this Saturday and Sunday, will be packed with exciting festivities to celebrate the exciting tube arrival. Expect street art performances from the likes of Dave Bonzai and Choots, as well as music from Busk In London and the Battersea Power Station Community Choir. 

Head down for a weekend packed with foodie delights, live acts and family-friendly fun.

Get inspired with this London Design Festival panel discussion 

As part of the London Design Festival, No.3 Gin will be hosting a panel discussion with three creatives to take a closer look at the theme ‘Design, Detail and Aesthetics’. Hosted at the V&A, the creatives in question include Justin Zoll, the New York based photographer specialising in microscopy, Bethan Laura Wood, the multi disciplined artist and designer, and fine furniture designer Sebastian Cox. The three creatives will go deep into discussion, analysing how their three different fields create perfection in their work.

Catch DJ Fat Tony’s unmissable September set

Kick off your bumper packed weekend with a DJ set from none other than DJ Fat Tony. The iconic party legend will be spinning the discs at NYX Hotel London Holborn, bringing with him a night of dance, disco and good vibes.
