Avid cyclists will already have their diaries marked but for those who need a little reminding, this Friday marks the start of the 109th edition of the Tour de France. Running for three weeks, from Friday 1st until Sunday 24th July, a select group of the world’s top cyclists will embark on the 3,328 kilometre journey through Europe’s stunning terrain. 

This year’s route will see the cyclists journey through north, south and central France, as well as cycling through Denmark and quickly whizzing through Switzerland and Belgium.

Starting the race on a great foot (or should we say bike), Denmark is set to become the 10th country to host the Grand Depart for the Tour de France. 

The first stage will depart from the bike-friendly city of Copenhagen on Friday 1st, while Stage 2, on Saturday 2nd, will kick off in the historic city of Roskilde and finish in Nyborg. The final Denmark stage on Sunday 3rd is the Veige to Sønderborg stretch, where racers will whip past some of Denmark’s sandy beaches and architectural landmarks.
