The Handbook
The Handbook

The Queen famously spends her summers at Balmoral, hosting prime ministers, world leaders and generally queening it up. She does not holiday in a static caravan in Scarborough. At least, we didn’t think she did…

A holiday park in Yorkshire have launched what is almost certainly (we hope, at least) the only Buckingham Palace themed caravan in the world. And it’s completely bizarre.

The caravan has reportedly (somehow, how?) had over £100,000 work undertaken to make it look this gopping. ‘Improvements’ include chandeliers in every room (including the loos – which also include two golden ‘thrones’). Bathrooms aside, there’s also a throne room, while the master bedroom has a four poster and even the dog bowls are gold-plated.

The two-bedroom caravan sleeps four, perfect for the Queen and Prince Philip and a couple of footmen if they want to get away from it all, and comes with all the luxury a royal could possibly need, plus the delights of Scarborough on the doorstep…

If that all didn’t hurt your eyes enough, Parkdean Resorts have produced a video to promote the luxury caravan (if you’ll forgive the oxymoron) including a lookalike-ie Queen and slightly less lookalike-ie Prince William and Kate and the result is actually completely charming.

But it did get us thinking…

Prince Harry and Meghan have made it abundantly clear that they want to escape the limelight and shun media attention. Cleverly, they’ve done this by moving to the world’s biggest celebrity hotspot, planning books, TV shows and putting in regular photo ops in the only place with a more vicious tabloid culture than London.

But if they want a re-think, the Cayton Bay Caravan Park would be ideal for the royal couple and Archie. It’s full of gold plated tat to keep Meghan happy, while it’s down-to-earth enough to satisfy Harry that he’s finally able to be a ‘man of the people’.

But if the Sussexes aren’t going to snap up a stay at the Scarborough palace, then you can for £149 for three days. Which is about as long as you’ll want, but it could actually be rather a lot of fun…
