You guys love a pool. Rooftop, infinity, class-dividing ones suspended between two buildings, you ain’t fussy. Whenever we feature a pool you go nuts and the more Insta-worthy the better.

Well, take a look at this. Repton Park in Woodford, East London is about as grand as public pools come as it’s housed in a breathtaking converted cathedral. Dating back to 1892, the building started out as a psychiatric hospital with a stunning vaulted chapel at its centre. The original details remain, from the ornate stained glass windows to the dramatic pillars and a sweeping aisle running down the middle, which now plays host to a 24metre pool – what a way to wash off your sins.

The pool is actually part of a Virgin Active with a state of the gym, workout studios, saunas and a spa on site, so if you fancy lifting dumbbells under the stunning dome or perfecting your butterfly in the most sacred of settings, you might want to consider making this your monthly membership. For those not committed to signing up, there is another way in although it will come at a cost – seems taking a dip in Repton is harder than meeting the Pope. You can book in for one-to-one swimming lessons with the Virgin Active coaches whether you’re at armband stage or are a keen swimmer looking to perfect your stroke. Worth it for the Instagram post at least?
