With summer soirées, Jubilee parties and alfresco wedding season upon us, rosé is the drink we always reach for as soon as the sun makes a welcomed appearance. For a quintessential summer sip, our bottle of choice is Babylonstoren Mourvèdre Rosé.

We’ve long been fans of Babylonstoren, the pioneering wine estate set in the heart of South Africa’s Cape Winelands, and this year’s rosé harvest is no exception. Light and floral, it’s produced to be enjoyed fresh rather than matured, and today marks the official launch of the 2022 Mourvèdre Rosé vintage.

Whether you’re celebrating at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show or planning your Jubilee street party, Babylonstoren Mourvèdre Rosé is the perfect addition to your set-up. Here’s why you’ll find us sipping it this summer…

It’s been crowned ‘The Official Rosé of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022’

Any association with the prestigious flower show is a big deal, but Babylonstoren Mourvèdre Rosé has been given the honour of being The Official Rosé of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022, and it’s for the second year in a row.

The rosé’s floral note nods to Babylonstoren’s estate. Each bottle brings a slice of the estate to your glass, from the mesmerising gardens through to the picturesque winelands. These floral notes make it the perfect rosé to sip at this year’s flower show.

Launching today, in line with the flower show opening, Babylonstoren’s rosé is the first of the year, kickstarting the summer season in style. If you’re visiting the flower show this week, stop by the Babylonstoren stand to sip on the first few bottles of this year’s harvest. Even if you’re not attending this year, order a bottle and recreate the alfresco experience at home.

It’s best enjoyed fresh

Unlike other varieties, this rosé is designed to be sipped fresh rather than maturing for years in the bottle.

Every year Babylonstoren harvests in the Cape Winelands in February and produces a new Mourvèdre Rosé vintage to be enjoyed throughout the summer. The grape skins are left on for just one to two hours to extract a colour that’s reminiscent of a gentle sunrise, and this year’s harvest is simply divine.

It’s elegant, dry and floral

Adding a touch of elegance to the rosé scene, Babylonstoren Mourvèdre Rosé is a light salmon colour with a lovely, floral character.

Expect wonderful hints of raspberries and rose petals to linger, before learning to a delightful discovery of creamy rhubarb, the sweet freshness of watermelon and a subtle punch of acidity.

The perfect accompaniment for summer parties

Evoking thoughts of the outdoors through every floral sip, this rosé makes for a great summer serve at any alfresco summer occasion. From park picnics to Jubilee celebrations, wedding receptions to weekend barbecues, its full, round flavour is reminiscent of the freshest spring blooms and will keep the summer alive even when the sun doesn’t pop out to say hello.

It also pairs well with different dishes, from trout and Norwegian salmon to sushi, salads and charcuterie, so whatever you’re making at your dinner party it’s the perfect pairing.
