Jennifer Lopez is continuing her return to romcoms this year with Shotgun Wedding, a new film in the works from Amazon that’s set to debut on Prime. The film is being co-penned by Liz Meriwether, who is best known for creating shows like New Girl and the Dropout.
With interesting timing considering J-Lo’s elopement to old flame Ben Affleck earlier this year, Shotgun Wedding sees couple Darcy and Tom (played by Lopez and Josh Duhamel) about to marry in the perfect circumstances: the ideal wedding destination, with all their family and friends. But they hit a few snags along the way… Darcy and Tom begin to get cold feet and second guess the whole thing, and there’s the small matter of a criminal gang hijacking proceedings and holding the whole party hostage.
Despite butting heads, Darcy and Tom must now work together to try and save their families and themselves – both their lives and their marriage. The film’s cast also includes Sonia Braga, Jennifer Coolidge, Lenny Kravitz, Cheech Marin, D’Arcy Garden. Shotgun Wedding has had a somewhat troubled production, with delays due to Covid and Josh Duhamel’s role originally meant to be played by Ryan Reynolds and then Armie Hammer, but now the film is pencilled in to release later on this year.
There hasn’t been a trailer released yet, but there’s been a few images released of J-Lo and Duhamel in action. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said of the film “Packed with action, comedy, and a dash of romance, Shotgun Wedding is one of those rare films with something for everyone.” It also follows J-Lo’s other romcom Marry Me, which released earlier this year and sees her co-star with Owen Wilson on Amazon Prime.
