Jet To Japan: The Outdoor Terrace Worth Exploring This Summer

Japan is at the top of everyone’s bucket list. But if you haven’t quite ticked it off your list just yet, then we may have found you the next best thing, and it’s right here in London.
This summer, London neighbourhood Belgravia and Pantechnicon, the giant six storey venue combining retail with Nordic and Japanese eateries, have partnered up with Roku Gin to launch an immersive Japanese-inspired terrace. Packed with shaved ice, alfresco dining and plenty of gin, it’s the perfect place to soak up the last of the summer heat.
Situated in Belgravia’s Halkin Arcade, the Roku Gin Summer Terrace is this summer’s number one alfresco destination to explore. It combines the best of delicious cocktails, Japanese street food and pop-up workshops for all to enjoy, as well as plenty of outdoor seating perfect for after-work drinks or catch-ups with friends.
Here’s everything you need to know…
The drinks
In need of something to cool you down from the city heat? Pantechnicon’s terrace will be serving up a twist on Kakigori, the traditional Japanese shaved ice dessert. Expect an exciting array of flavoured shaved ice Roku cocktails, each bringing the brand’s six signature botanicals to centrefold.
Soak up the sun and sip on flavours created by Pantechnicon’s master mixologist, Gento Torigata. Think Darjeeling & Strawberry, made with Darjeeling infused Roku gin and strawberry; Melon & Matcha, made with Roku Gin, melon, matcha and fino; and Salted Yuzu, a refreshing salty number which combines Roku Gin, yuzu sake, honey and salt.
Frozen drinks not your thing? Fear not as there’ll be plenty of other cocktails and drinks on offer, from a Japanese twist on a classic G&T to a Umami Hi, made with Toki Whisky, ponzu, myoga and soda.
The food
If you get peckish, there is a delicious menu of light bites on hand, each designed to pair alongside the drinks. Expect plenty of Japanese street food items available, including octopus takoyaki, a tasty fried battered snack; a Veganyaki with kimchi and vegan cheese; and a sweet yuzuyaki, sweet cardamom pancake balls with yuzu curd and strawberry. We’re hungry just thinking about it…

The pop-ups
As if the shaved ice and tasty snacks weren’t enough to tempt you, the summer terrace will be playing host to Takoyaki street food masterclasses and a kokedama workshop too.
On 21 August, Japanese chef Atsuko Ikeda will be taking you on a street food journey that’ll see you learn how to make savoury and sweet takoyaki balls, as well as a dashi broth, the base of an umami rich soup.
On 20 August, a Japanese kokedama plant masterclass will take place, allowing you to learn step-by-step how to create a kokedama palm moss ball. All while sipping on shaved ice cocktails of course…
