Humbugs, stop reading now. If there’s one Christmas event that leaves you feeling more festive than Buddy the Elf after a bucket of candy canes, it’s Christmas at Kew. The enchanting spectacle of light takes place every year and tickets always sell out. We know we’re not even into October yet, but if you want to secure a slot, you’d better be quick.

Taking place throughout the festive season, from Wednesday 17th November – Sunday 9th January, between 4pm – 10pm, the after dark trail gives visitors a unique opportunity to see the famous gardens lit up in fairytale style. And this year it’s going to be more magical than ever as the iconic London landmark will be illuminated by an incredible 1 million bulbs.

The two-kilometre trail will see a section of stunning installations transform the gardens of Kew, from the famous Treetop Walkway that will be lit up into a dazzling waterfall, to the Tunnel of Light that sees thousands of pea-lights suspended from shimmering ribbons that visitors can walk through. It’s not only a feast for the eyes (and your Instagram feeds) but something that will delight old, young and even the most stubborn of Scrooges out there.

Visitors can warm up with a selection of festive foods, from boozy hot chocolates to moreish churros, slow roast baps to toasted chestnuts – and of course, plenty of mulled wine. They can also gather around the huge open fire-pits to toast marshmallows. I mean, does London get any more wholesome than this?

There will be some old favourites popping up throughout the event too, such as the charming singing holly bushes and the enchanting scented fire garden. Kew’s famous Palm House will top of the festive experience as the trail comes to an end. The Victorian glasshouse that plays home to over 1,500 species of plant will be lit up with lasers, rainbow colours, light beans and water jets, all set to magical symphony of Christmas songs.

To top it off, there’s a picturesque Victorian carousel, helter skelter and other family-friendly rides to enjoy, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot Father Christmas and his elves.

Still not feeling Christmassy? You’ve got no hope.

Christmas At Kew runs from Wednesday 17 November 2021 – Sunday 9 January 2022 with time slots between 4pm – 10pm daily.

Kew Gardens, Entrances at Victoria Gate, Brentford Gate and Lion Gate.

Tickets start from £21.50 for an off-peak adult. Family tickets are available and there are ticket discount for Kew members.
