The Weekend Edit: 15 Leather Trench Coats We Love
The classic trench: timeless, chic and, well, pretty safe. Trench season may be back but not as you know it, as for AW22 the wardrobe staple toughens up with a vampish makeover. Scroll to shop our favourite leather and faux leather trenches set to become the hero coats of the season.
The trench may be a cornerstone of the capsule wardrobe, helping to bridge the gap between those tricky in-between months, but it’s always refreshing to see a riff on an old classic. That’s the joy of the leather trench. Buttery soft, it feels elegant but simultaneously vampish – think Matrix vibes – and the joy of one is that it can take on many a guise, from powerful and sexy when slightly oversized and cinched at the waist, to ‘90’s-inspired and grungy when paired with light-wash denim and chunky boots.
There are plenty to choose from this season, for all budgets. Top of the wishlist is Chloé’s dreamy patchwork style in retro tones of burgundy, black and cream. Granted, a £7k+ coat isn’t the most relatable new purchase as we launch headfirst into a cost-of-living crisis, but we had to feature it just to appreciate its sheer beauty.
Far more realistic is COS’s ‘The Leather Trench.’ Aptly named, it is the best we’ve found on the high street and while still £550, its price point is justified by its quality and craftsmanship. As part of the COS ATELIER collection, the limited capsule is founded on the principles of luxury and exceptional design, it’s made from supple, buttery leather that will grow better with age. It also comes with a really substantial wide waist belt which just makes it feel even more luxurious. Plus, instead of black, it comes in a subtle inky navy, making it feel a bit cooler than the classic colour.
