From the chunkiest of heels straight from the runway to high street iterations, we’ve handpicked the best of the platform boot trend. Scroll on to shop AW22’s return to grungy glamour…

You might be getting Rocky Horror Show vibes or, if you’re in your early thirties, a triggering flashback from the Jeffrey Campbell hype circa 2008, but the platform boot is back for AW22. Spearheaded by the likes of Versace and Saint Laurent, loftier heights were big news in the high-end collections, paired with punky mini skirts and grungy knits, or juxtaposed with the uber-girly ‘Barbiecore’ trend. The high street has naturally followed suit, and whilst these may look like one of the season’s riskiest trend – sartorially and health and safety wise – they are more wearable than you might think.

Tone the look down by pairing with a pretty autumnal print midi dress or slip skirt, or give a classic black tuxedo dress and 25 denier tights a tougher edge by taking your footwear up a level.

Heroes have to be the Versace Aevitas in rich caramel – we love paired with a wool pleated mini and chunky knit for a grown-up approach to ’90s grunge. But if the budget won’t stretch to the eye-watering price, Zara’s milky cream platforms will bring new life to a oaty-hued jumper dress.

Versace's Aevitas in rich butterscotch will bring a modern edge to cashmere knits and woollen pleated minis, or a nod to the '70s when paired with inky denim flares.
