Tootsmas Christmas Market

Back for a fifth year due to popular demand (who doesn’t love a festive pop-up?), Tootopia’s Tootsmas is a two-day festive extravaganza that brings the people of Tooting the type of event that would normally be held in a more central London location. Food is at the heart of Tootsmas – let’s face it, food is what our weekends revolve around – with a whole range of trendy vendors deep frying their churros and stuffing their bao buns. The Oh My Dog! hotdog guys have some special Christmassy creations, we’re drooling at the sound of the Ho Ho Dog – […]

Dogtown Vs Slap & Pickle Food Battle

We don’t like fighting, it’s not really our scene unless, that is, it’s an epic battle, a fight worth our time… in short, a food fight. Not the sort of fight though that you picture happening in school canteens where somewhere throws some chips and then someone lobs a yoghurt back (did that ever really happen?) no we mean the sort where two street food companies go head to head in a cooking battle and we get to decide the winner. The King Co. in Clapham have welcomed  in burger connoisseurs Slap & Pickle and Dogtown London, the hot dog […]

Night Shrine Christmas Pop-Up

Tucked away in the streets behind Covent Garden, The Black Penny coffee house is all exposed brick walls, floor boards and dangling light bulbs. A good place to add to your virtual ‘Christmas shopping refuel pit-stop’ list, it’s cosy and welcoming and the food is just what you fancy (french toast, chorizo baked beans, bubble ‘n’ squeak). Named after the Penny Universities/coffee houses that existed back in the 17th century offering thirsty passers by a dose of discussion with their caffeine, The Black Penny’s basement doubles as a seminar pit, bringing true meaning to the term ‘food for thought’.  On Thursday […]

Vanilla Black Cookery Day School

If you’re vegetarian in most restaurants you’d be lucky to have half the number of dishes to choose from that carnivores do – bonus points if mushroom risotto doesn’t appear. Whilst we love a good steak and on a winter’s night a beef casserole is very hard to beat, we also think that vegetables should be more than just a side portion and (sometimes) deserve to be the star of the show.  Say hello to Vanilla Black’s Cookery Day School that can make anyone feel like Jamie or Nigella after a couple of hours. Put on by Icetank Kitchen who […]

Soho Ski Terrace Winter Rooftop

Soho Sky Terrace is swapping the ‘y’ for an ‘i’ and transforming into a Ski Terrace for Winter Overlooking the iconic black and white building of Liberty’s, the terrace has always been a destination for Soho drinking but now even more so – you can just about see the twinkly lights of Carnaby Street below and the lights on Regent Street hide just behind. The terrace itself has a vintage feel to it – retro ski posters adorn the walls and skis are propped up around the edge of the room. Snuggly fur and velvet throws on the sofas are […]

Out There Cinema on Harvey Nichols’ Rooftop

Back in June they hosted a Grey Goose summer terrace and now the rooftop at Harvey Nichols is welcoming a different type of goose from 26th November until 4th December. Canada Goose, the brand of ridiculously warm jackets favoured by Daniel Craig and Emma Stone, is turning their focus to another top end audience in the form of a pop-up cinema on the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols. As you’d expect with any outdoor winter pop-up, the space is being transformed into a winter wonderland with walls that look like glaciers, flooring that resembles ice and canapés and cocktails inspired […]

Milk Lates Supper Clubs

Our 2 favourite things have collided: brunch and supper clubs. Milk in Balham has long been a reason in itself to head to the neighbourhood, the exposed brick walls, neon lighting and obviously the damn good food reason enough to head to SW12. This summer they expanded in size to cater to the queues of hungry/hungover Londoners craving a cappuccino and bursting for a benedict. This obviously wasn’t enough – not only do we want milk for breakfast we clearly want it for supper too. For two nights at the end of November, Milk are opening their doors after sundown […]

The South Pole Saloon

This might come as a controversy but rumour has it that the elves aren’t happy with Father Christmas. Every year he gets all the credit for bringing the presents, he’s the one on Christmas cards and in story books – but who are the real heroes here? The elves, the ones actually making the presents. They’re kept as slaves and forced to work all year and then Santa revels in the praise. Hardly fair is it? Well, done with a life of slavery, some of the elves have escaped the North Pole and found themselves in…Brixton. On a purpose built […]

Cinema in the Snow

We’re all dreaming of a white Christmas, but with Storm Barney hitting our shores, the chances are we’ll probably have a mild, rainy windy Christmas, sorry to drop that one on you, I’m not quite full of the Christmas cheer yet. Unless that is you go to the 20th Century Theatre, because Pop-Up Screens are back and they are bringing the residents of Notting Hill and beyond Cinema in the Snow. Running from the 11th to the 23rd December guests will enter through a magic wardrobe and rather than being disappointed as we were when we were children when we […]
