FS:09

The atmosphere was electric and expectations were high as St Andrews students flocked to Lower College Lawn, at the heart of the University’s academic buildings, for 2009’s Charity Fashion Show, proudly sponsored this year by The Handbook. With a new venue, new format, and a huge fund-raising target to beat, the pressure was really on for the show’s Director, 4th year student Jesse Motion, and his committee. The marquee was a majestic affair, reflecting the circus theme adopted by the creative team throughout their polished advertising campaign. The imposing long runway allowed for table upon table of guests to take […]

Coxon for Cordings

Cordings, haunt of the quintessential English gent, appears to be grabbing the attentions of a rather more rock and roll audience these days.  Four years ago, English music legend Eric Clapton snatched up a mighty fifty percent stake in the business, and it has now been noted that Blur guitarist Graham Coxon is the star of the latest advertisements. “We just asked Graham one day if we could take a couple of photos and he said he’d be very happy to do it”, said Cordings MD Noll Uloth. Indeed it was not a typically staged and carefully polished shoot – […]

Elle Style Awards

Known as the Oscars of the fashion world, when guests stepped into two white-washed rooms filled with sparkle and glitz at the Elle Awards at Big Sky Studios in North London on Monday night, they were not to be disappointed. A recently elusive Sienna Miller turned up to receive her Elle Style Icon Award (stumbling on her vertiginous spikes). Asked whether she found it hard to keep up the innovative bohemian creations she is known for she answered: ‘I don’t feel pressure to wear great outfits I just worry that I’ll do something stupid like fall down the stairs.’ Reassuring […]

A Cold Wintour

Sienna Miller reportedly fell foul of Vogue editor Anna Wintour during a photoshoot for a cover of the US version of the magazine. Apparently, the well respected fashion editor found the actress too ‘toothy’ and her hair ‘unruly’ during her Mario Testino photoshoot for the February edition in 2007. And staff are said to have complained that the young star had ‘too many fillings’, captured in a behind-the-scenes documentary called The September Issue. The programme also reveals that she was airbrushed and designers took a photo of her face and pasted it on another shot of her body. This is […]

After its landmark design of the TAG Heuer 360 degree Museum in Switzerland, the Swiss watchmaker invited Paris-based Carbonale to create a unique shopping experience with a new boutique concept. Noughty eighties

Brace yourselves fashionistas; the unflattering fashions of the eighties are making a comeback. And if flashbacks of stone washed denim and Dr Martens don’t make you recoil in horror, then this summer could be your season.  We’ve already seen (and sampled) the rise of the skinny jean so all you’ll need now to complete the throwback is a batwing jumper, a garish hair band and a set of sturdy shoulder pads. But for those of you too young to remember other statements that made the decade so memorable, here are a few of the trends that will be enjoying a resurgence this […]

Lily grows up

Lily Allen has gone all demure and sophisticated on us in a smouldering new photoshoot for Interview magazine. The opinionated songstress, whose second album, It’s Not Me, it’s You, will be released next month, is interviewed for the cult American magazine by artist and close friend Damien Hirst. And always one to speak her mind, Lily admits that all she really wants is a filthy rich husband. New Jackie

Vital bag news for 2009. Frida Giannini, the designer for Gucci, has created an up-sized, slouchier, hand-stitched “New Jackie,” reinterpreting the iconic shoulder bag made famous by Jacqueline Onassis when she was the wife of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Giannini has steered the Gucci label in a more chic business like direction and for her spring/summer collection she has produced the “New Jackie” in every possible material from the GG logo to exotics like crocodile and snakeskin. Gucci’s roots are in accessories, as are those of its designer, and it shows in this classy new addition to the range. […]

Prada Paradise

While the English may be rushing to visit the new Westfield complex, Kuala Lumpur is busy adding even more extravagant shops to their prestigious mall, Pavilion.  This time it’s none other than Prada and set over two floors with three entrances, it seems to be making our giant Westfield look humble. Designed by Robert Baciocchi, the architect behind many a Prada store, the space which is set across 336 square meters, is made of backlit aluminium sections.  Baciocchi doesn’t end it here however, with alternate titanium and bronze finishing and a black marble stairway in a casing of bronzed mirrors, […]
