Elle Style Awards

Known as the Oscars of the fashion world, when guests stepped into two white-washed rooms filled with sparkle and glitz at the Elle Awards at Big Sky Studios in North London on Monday night, they were not to be disappointed. A recently elusive Sienna Miller turned up to receive her Elle Style Icon Award (stumbling on her vertiginous spikes). Asked whether she found it hard to keep up the innovative bohemian creations she is known for she answered: ‘I don’t feel pressure to wear great outfits I just worry that I’ll do something stupid like fall down the stairs.’ Reassuring […]

TAG Heuer

Luxury watch brand TAG Heuer has opened the first new-style flagship store in Westfield’s £1.6 billion shopping centre in west London. This is the prestigious Swiss watchmaker’s second London venture, and follows its UK debut in 2001 with a flagship store in Brook Street in London’s West End. After its landmark design of the TAG Heuer 360 degree Museum in Switzerland, the Swiss watchmaker invited Paris-based Carbonale to create a unique shopping experience with a new boutique concept. The new 120 square-metre store, which can be seen from afar thanks to the vast exterior made of brushed and bronze-lacquered steel, […]

Noughty eighties

Brace yourselves fashionistas; the unflattering fashions of the eighties are making a comeback. And if flashbacks of stone washed denim and Dr Martens don’t make you recoil in horror, then this summer could be your season.  We’ve already seen (and sampled) the rise of the skinny jean so all you’ll need now to complete the throwback is a batwing jumper, a garish hair band and a set of sturdy shoulder pads. But for those of you too young to remember other statements that made the decade so memorable, here are a few of the trends that will be enjoying a resurgence this […]

Cowshed

The ultimate sanctuary for girls is filled with an abundance of cosseting treatments.  Well known for their unique and kitsch style, the ‘nail-zone’ section is a relaxing and luxurious manicure haven.  With three chairs practically next door to each other, it’s the perfect way to catch up with friends.  Quick and easy, with televisions and coffees at your disposal (although the latter requires regular skilled hand-swapping) the experience is ideal for a Saturday morning pampering session. In fact, the treatment is great anytime.  Go for a quick ‘polish change’ 15 minute session in your lunch, or alternatively have the Cowshed […]

Posh underwear

Victoria Beckham has followed in the footsteps of husband David by slipping into Emporio Armani underwear for the Italian fashion house’s latest advertising campaign. The brooding black and white shots show the former Spice Girl reclining on a bed in nothing but lingerie, a pout and a pair of high heels. Fashion designer Georgio Armani revealed that he selected the 34-year-old mother of three for his spring/summer collection because she is a “stylish and intriguing woman.” And the leaking of the pictures happily coincided with Katie Holmes’ campaign for Mui Mui, in which the actress adopts a similar sultry look […]

Prada

Prada seem to have taken pole position yet again with their new Spring/Summer 09 advertising campaign. Photographed by the highly acclaimed Stephen Meisel and Heidi Slimane, the collection is Classicism with an edge. The women’s collection has been shot to look like an ancient stone bas-relief. Like the mythological characters, the models are positioned as though they are all interconnected, creating a dance-like effect. With porcelain skin against the brilliant gold and python print, Meisel shows just how integration between ancient and contemporary is done. For the menswear, Heidi Slimane captures timeless classicism with black and white and poetic stillness. […]

Lymphatic Drainage

So you’ve eaten too much turkey, you’ve drunk far too much red wine and there is no longer the Yuletide excuse for you to continue to over indulge.  Yet if the thought of hitting the gym or taking any strenuous exercise seems too unbearable, then Paul Drinkwater may be just the answer.  Specialising in Oedema Lymphatic Drainage, where the system is healthy but sluggish, the 1 hour treatment aims to remove all toxins from your body. Chanel Fennell?

Although best known for his jewellery, the designer Theo Fennell has turned his attention towards something a little different this Christmas.  Normally known for his exquisite and elegant jewellery, Fennell has decided to launch a fragrance, Theo Fennell Eau de Toilette.  This will not be Fennell’s debut perfume; however, it is anticipated to be even more successful than the first.  Blending Saffron, Lily, Rose and Orchid amongst other opulent spices and scents, the result is a rich and seductive fragrance which hopes to succeed any competitors out this Spring/Summer 09. Goodone

We are all well aware, as savvy citizens of the earth, that the 21st century obsession with throwaway fashion is a toxic and damaging habit. Those lunchtime trips to Primark for frivolous treats are racking up and the time has come to actually bite the organic-eco-fair-trade bullet. And no it does not mean wearing hemp. Enter Goodone, a fast-expanding company based in East London which has captured the attentions of the media through its creative and charitable concept. The two fashion graduates behind the firm source local materials and fabrics, from recycling collections and local business cast-offs, and rework them […]
