Paramount Opens To Public

Paramount, the extremely popular restaurant and bar situated on the top three floors of London's Centre Point building, will next month open to the public for the first time. Owners Pierre and Kathleen Condou, who used to own L'Odeon and Bistrot Bruno and first launched Paramount as a private members club in November 2008, have decided to open up the restaurant on 14 May in response to 'overwhelming demand' from the public, it will extend its dining capacity to 110-covers. Head chef Colin Layfield, who recently joined Paramount having previously worked with Condou as head chef at L'Odéon, will serve […]

The Bentley London

The Bentley London Waldorf Astoria Collection has launched a brand new concept in hotels, offering the entire building to patrons for private hire, thus catering for the most dignified and exclusive of groups. The elegant and established hotel situated on Harrington Gardens, SW7, has long been the choice of accommodation for groups of visiting politicians and ambassadors, and the new venture reflects the recent desire of such parties for bespoke, self-contained and secure venues. The hotel will assign a 'Head Guest Ambassador' to each party taking over the hotel, whose task it is to manage all requirements and to coordinate […]

Manson Fulham

From the same team that brought you the hugely successful Sands End Pub – Manson, with Chef Gemma Tuley (the youngest ever appointed head chef under Gordon Ramsey) at the helm, has the potential to be truly excellent. Half of France welcomed us in to an extremely casual and comfortable bistro style restaurant at the parsons green end of the Fulham road. If anything the waiters were a little too enthusiastic, surprising, given that one in particular couldn’t actually speak any English. By the time the food arrived though, I realised they had good reason to be. My trio of […]

7.30am, Pizza East

As we stumble through the memories of our student days peopled by unsuitable boyfriends, unspeakable amounts of alcohol and cold pizza for breakfast we find ourselves wondering if a great deal has actually changed save higher tolerance levels, worse hangovers and more expensive shoes to trash… But back to that pizza. Nick Jones' Pizza East is making the Shoreditch walk of shame a whole lot more bearable. As of Monday morning, the venue will be open for breakfast daily from 7.30am during the week, and 10am at the weekend. And star of the show is the newly invented Rolly – […]

Petrus

Earlier this year foul mouthed celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay could have been forgiven for uttering more than just the ‘f’ word as last month he was stripped of one of his prestigious Michelin stars at Claridge’s.  However, the start of 2010 for Gordon isn’t all bad news as he will be re-opening Petrus in Belgravia with new and exciting dynamic themes. Design for the new Petrus has been undertaken by The Russel Sage Studio, who have created a fresh dinning space.  With the new location’s focal point being a stunning open cellar displaying over 2000 bottles of wine, there will […]

Christmas at Paramount

If you've been itching to scope out Paramount, London's uber exclusive Tom Dixon designed members' club atop the Centre Point tower, now's your chance.  The venue is running an unmissable offer that's guaranteed to impress the most world-weary of guests.  For a limited time only, its exclusive Level 31 private events' space is available free of charge for Christmas lunch bookings.  Now admittedly, there's no such thing as a free lunch.  You do need a minimum of 30 guests at £95 a head but with a panoramic view of the capital form a 385ft high perspective – it'll buy you […]

Kai Mayfair

Kai isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a master class in Chinese cuisine. In fact, the only hole I can pick in our evening was the menu – the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover” couldn’t have been more apt. Thank goodness for the army of waitresses who guided me through an extraordinary variety of imperial delicacies. The Braised Abalone (sea snail) & ‘Kai Lan’ in a white truffle reduction was exquisite, which you would hope having been airflown from China and after 3 days of marinating. The Wasabi prawns, a speciality at Kai, were hot, cool, bitter, sweet […]

Forget the toffee apple this bonfire night and instead sample the scrumptious new Ginger Bread Martini at The Mandeville!  This yummy cocktail was created exclusively for the deVigne Bar by bar manager Claudio Grisorio, made with vodka, orange curacao, honey and mulled with homemade gingerbread – the ideal winter warmer. The martini treat will warm the cockles of heart in more ways than one though, as £1 from every martini sold will be donated to Make-a-Wish Foundation UK. Make-a-Wish Foundation UK grants children and young people suffering from life threatening illnesses their wish, whatever that may be.  It might be […]

Go East for Pizza

If your're still on the waiting list for Shoreditch House membership, don't despair.  You can now get closer to the Nick Jones magic than simply craning your neck to catch a glimpse of the lovelies frolicking in the House's rooftop pool.  New member of the Soho House Group family, Pizza East is opening today on the ground floor of the Tea Building next door to the Shoreditch Mecca.  The exposed beams, pipes and concrete walls indicative of East End industial chic are offset by leather seating and steel refectory tables where punters can munch on 10 inch numbers right up […]

Just Oriental

Just Oriental Tucked away below the spacious Just St James is their sister restaurant Just Oriental. Peter Gladwin’s informal restaurant offers an extensive range of Pan Asian food from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, China and Japan which includes a wide selection of sharing dishes such as mixed seafood and vegetable tempura or crispy aromatic duck. Other choices that are well worth sampling include their varied choice of aromatic curries and the steamed black bream. Although described as buzzy and vibrant, the overall décor is stylistic rather than cosy, and the seating arrangements seem slightly awkward.  The recessed lighting too makes this […]

Just St James

The newly converted Just St James used to be the most expensive bank in London and following its revamp the building remains impressive.  Its ornate interior which contains sweeping staircases, marble columns, raised terrace seatings and large balconies is certainly aimed to impress the business client and with its extensive menu they have catered for all tastes. From Butternut squash soup to braised ox tongue and foie gras there is an eclectic mix of starters available.  For the main course too, there is an equally wide selection, ranging from Dover sole and seabass to gnocchi.  I would highly recommend the angus fillet steak which came with an […]
