Fields Set to Open

The most exciting thing to happen in Clapham for a while is the launch this month of new all-day café, Fields, from the team behind M1LK  in Balham.  It’s the brainchild of Aussie, Julian Porter, who opened M1LK at just 21 and his partner, actress and artist Lauren Heaphy. With emphasis on local produce – many ingredients will be grown on the café’s own roof garden and plant nursery – dishes will include Coal-grilled sausage bao, kewpie, pickled shallot and iceberg, Peat-smoked mutton and beans, garden herb butter and sourdough and Smashed peas, hay-smoked goat’s curd, garden herbs and sourdough.  The venue […]

Opso: Review

Earlier in the year burger legends Patty & Bun took on the commercial giant McDonalds by opening up opposite the chain’s busiest UK branch. Now it’s the a battle on Paddington Street as new Greek restaurant Opso has opened opposite The Real Greek. Well of course we can’t take sides without having tried both and since we had not yet tried Opso we tootled off to Marylebone to see the fight they were putting up. The concept of Opso is essentially sharing platters or Greek tapas if you will, they call this ‘Social Food’ and it is, until someone hogs […]

Ben’s Canteen Earlsfield: Review

Chances are if you live in Clapham that after a heavy night you’ve dragged your sorry hung over head to Ben’s Canteen on St John’s Hill for one of their infamous brunches, ordered eggs or a burger and a round of Bloody Marys. Have you been to Ben’s Canteen over in Earlsfield though? Having opened earlier this year, the sister site is larger than its counterpart but still with that simple, laid back charm that Ben’s Canteen is known for. Though both serve evening menus, I feel as if this is the one I would choose to dine in at […]

Our favourite Afternoon Teas

For those of you who don’t know, back  in the early nineteenth century it is said that Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, complained of a ‘sinking feeling in the afternoon’ (at the time it was common just to eat breakfast and supper) and so she began to snack on sandwiches and little cakes. On returning to London, Anna invited the girls over to join her and so the tradition of afternoon tea was formed. To say the list of places offering tea now is extensive, is a bit of an understatment because London sure knows how to do an afternoon tea, but […]

With so many picnics in London to choose from we’ve rounded up five of our favourites!  If grass isn’t your thing: Four Seasons If the thought of sitting on the ground and kicking off your shoes brings you out in a cold sweat; the bugs, the chance you might get a grass stain, the whole nature thing,  then the Four Seasons picnic hamper served on the Amaranto terrace a table (aka civilisation) is the thing for you.  A basket filled with smoked salmon and cucumber, devilled eggs and roast beef sandwiches is accompanied by vintage tins filled with scones, clotted […]

Buddha Bar Review

As soon as we walk into Buddha Bar we are struck by the colourful lighting and chic interior of this Knightsbridge restaurant. Located just off the high street, this 450 capacity venue is filled with impressive décor like floor to ceiling crystallized dragons, and London’s interpretation of the signature Buddha levitating over diners in the ground floor. Once we are seated at our table we order cocktails, a definite recommendation is the BB Bellini; a Japanese inspired twist on the classic with a blend of peach and sparkling sake. It would have been easy enough to sit there all night […]
