Kensington Place: Review

Having opened back in 1987, Kensington Place, is one of Notting Hill’s most loved restaurants serving up British brasserie-style food with a strong focus on seafood and fish; all the fish comes from the aptly named Fish Shop which is an extension of the restaurant so you know it’s going to be super fresh.  Having visited their pop-up earlier in the year, The Handbook thought it was high time we went back to the main restaurant. The restaurant itself has a nautical hints throughout and is light and airy with large floor to ceiling windows,  a bar at one end […]

Vivo: Review

Sometimes it is best to keep things simple. Sometimes you just want good food without the fuss and that is exactly what Vivo are doing over in Islington. So The Handbook headed to the all-day café and bakery to try out the Italian food. We wanted to sit on the roof terrace, a hidden space at the back which would have been beautiful had the sun been shining but the strong winds and chill in the air meant that we settled for downstairs; the upside being that we didn’t have to grapple with our trays of food up the stairs, […]

Scottish Pop-Up: Dram & Smoke

London can’t get enough of cultural pop-ups. Another one lands behind a hidden doorway, down the road from Vauxhall Underground station, in a fully functional steelyard serving as an unconventional but fitting venue for a Scottish weekend pop-up starting Friday 23rd May. Upon entering the industrial scene guests are greeted with a welcome cocktail and can sample traditional Scottish scran through a six course tasting menu, which includes haggis bon bons, potted smoked mackerel, and a creamy Cullen Skink soup shooter. A deep-fried Mars Bar even makes an appearance at dessert. Alongside the food, Innis & Gunn beer, a range […]

Cheese and Wine at The InterContinental: Review

Not wanting to stop indulging after the long weekend, we decided to go to Theo Randall at the InterContinental Park Lane on a Tuesday evening to work our way through their recently launched cheese and wine menu – because who can think of a better way to spend a Tuesday evening? Having won numerous awards including best Italian restaurant in the Sunday Times Food List 2013, the restaurant is simple, elegant with dark colours and low lighting it may look like many other luxury hotel restaurants but simple touches such as the large bowl of runner beans on the table […]

The Clerkenwell Cabana

Due to the celebrations set to commence in Brazil later this year, The Well on St John Street is opening up its very own Clerkenwell Cabana, having the cocktail lounge transformed into an exotic cabana! Complete with beach vibe decorations, such as flowing white drapes that adorn the walls throughout and some Latin beats playing to give us a hit of that South American energy, it's set to be a very popular hang out. They'll be serving Brazilian bar snacks, such as the traditional pork and bean stew, or simple mini english beef burgers for those who aren't so daring […]
