Indulging at the Gilbert and Scott

Last week the hard working folk at The Handbook decided we needed a night to indulge in good food and wine so we headed over to Gilbert and Scott. Situated next to the Kings Cross train station sits the St Pancras  Renaissance Hotel which is the home of the Gilbert and Scott restaurant. As we walked through the entrance into the main bar we were greeted with a beautiful chandelier made from hanging bells before settling into the private dining room. We then began the evening with kedgeree canapés (made with eel and orange zest) followed by the main of lamb shank which was […]

The tables can be used for ordering food, playing games, setting the table ambience, discovering the local neighbourhood, and even ordering a taxi home. The E-Table works in the same way as a tablet does and even has apps where you […]

The Mint Leaf was also recently visited by legendary poet, lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar and renowned Bollywood actress and women's rights activist Shabana Azmi. International superstar Justin Bieber also made not one, but three appearances at Mint Leaf Haymarket during his UK tour, so must have loved the food! He celebrated his 19th birthday at the restaurant, […]

Chilli Night at Ben’s Canteen

Rather than staying in and feeling depressed that it is the end of the weekend, this Sunday you should make the most of every last minute of it and head over to Ben’s Canteen on St John’s Hill. Why? Because this Sunday alongside their normal menu, they are serving up Ben Frank’s award winning Texan Chilli. Made from British rare breed beef, pork and wild venison from Cornwall, this is no ordinary chilli. It’s cooked over three days and added to the meat is Madagascan vanilla, 100 % cocoa and 8 types of chilli and served with a smoky bacon […]

Stunning food at Sushinho

The high-powered city peeps based near Liverpool Street now have a new place to fill up on delicious food. Enter the quiet and welcomingly heated (!) haven of Devonshire Square, and you’ll spot Sushinho – a new Brazilian-Japanese fusion restaurant. We were invited to the launch last month, so returned with great anticipation – and we certainly weren’t disappointed. We started our evening downstairs, in the cosy yet sophisticated cocktail bar. The drinks were beautifully presented and paired with tasty plantain crisps which were shockingly moreish! Our taste buds suitably prepared, we made our way to the main restaurant upstairs. Full […]

Dine on an exquisite menu of chicken breast and truffled celeriac, followed by chocolate brownie and salted caramel ice cream, while three short plays are acted in the restaurant right next to you! Blinis, Bellinis and Espresso Martinis at The Tower of London

Steeped in history, the Tower of London, is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and is home to Crown Jewels. And now there is something else very special about it too, Moving Venue is now one of the approved caterers for bespoke and corporate events.  The Handbook were lucky enough to go down and have a private viewing of the Crown Jewels before being able to try ‘blinis, bellinis and espresso martinis’ courtesy of Moving Venue. The jewel in the crown, excuse the pun, had to be the revolving bar (very dangerous for self discipline) where the bellinis and […]
