Bo Drake Review – What We Thought

When it comes to fusion cooking, Scottish-Chinese chef Jan Lee at Bo Drake is certainly standing out from the crowd and making a big impression with his Korexican cuisine. His unique idea of fusing together East Asian cuisine with smoky BBQ cooking methods from Europe and America has got people talking, and more importantly eating. Think tapas, but with an Asian twist, then a Mexican twist, then back to an Asian. And it kind of seems to go around in that flavour cycle… Situated on Greek Street, every table has a flickering candle, with a choice of intimate dining at […]

House of Ho Review – What We Thought

First impressions were good at House of Ho. Arriving at the Fitzrovia townhouse, we were greeted by hostesses in traditional Asian dresses, relieved of our coats and shown to our table on the first floor. A slightly more intimate space than the ground floor it also felt more luxurious with lots of gold, marble and pale green. The whole restaurant definitely had a buzz to it – a lovely atmosphere made up elegant diners and efficient staff serving plate upon plate of beautiful food up numerous flights of slightly wonky stairs to parties in the private dining rooms – the […]

The Bat and Ball Review – what we thought

If you’ve done your absolute worst to yourself throughout Christmas in terms of over-indulging, especially in regards to alcohol, then the idea of more boozy nights out may prove too much. This doesn’t mean that you have to spend the next few weeks home alone as a new ping pong bar has cropped up in Westfield. The year-long pop up covers 2 floors with the top (the Games Hall) holding 12 tables to obliterate your partner plus a bar to quench your thirst – ping pong is not for the faint hearted after all.Although there’s a bar, there is also […]

Holborn Dining Room Review – what we thought

Holborn Dining Room was buzzing when we arrived at 6pm, normally a slow time for restaurants with things kicking off in the proceeding hours, but not here. For such a large venue, the tables were mostly filled with people even sitting around the bar. The vibe here is relaxed but smart and seems like a popular choice with workers in the surrounding Holborn area. The lighting is dim and a large Christmas tree is up giving everything a festive feel, I find it easy to settle in and get right down to ordering cocktails. My Garden of Eden cocktail was […]

The Four Thieves Review – What We Thought

As someone who is much more at home in a nice pub than a bar I was very excited when I was introduced to Clapham’s The Four Thieves, a fairly traditional pub downstairs with a wicked twist upstairs for any adult-child to unleash their inner youngster in.  As I entered Four Thieves, in Clapham I was rather confused to tell the truth, I had heard it was hybrid of a pub and a games room, but when I entered I was met by a large spacious room filled with a Frankenstein-style, eclectic jumble of random tables and chairs. Large pieces […]

Red Dog Saloon Review – What We Thought

Red Dog Saloon the American BBQ restaurant has recently moved into Berwick Street, their third London site and having heard various reports of great burgers and good milkshakes we decided to see for ourselves.   Stepping inside you’ll find dark wooden panelled walls covered in black and white photos of American outlaws and cowboys and skulls of cattle. It’s relaxed and informal and for the size of the restaurant they were able to fit a lot of tables in – good for getting lots of covers in and not having to queue, bad for the size of the tables which […]

The Ivy Café Review – What We Thought

When you think of the word café you probably most likely think of something cheap and cheerful, where you can get enough food to feed a small army for less than a fiver (you might need to leave London for that to be a reality, but you get my drift).  If not those you might think of the grand cafés of Europe with their high ceilings, antique lighting and smart service, it is, naturally that The Ivy Café falls into this latter category. Having opened at the start of last month in Marylebone, the café offers all -day dining and […]
