The Vault at Milroy’s of Soho – What We Thought

With so many bars, pubs and speakeasies around London I often question how on earth there is space for them all. The answer, as I found out when I went to visit The Vaults at Milroy, is that some are hidden inside others and tucked underground behind hidden bookshelves (obviously!). I entered Milroy’s whisky shop and was met by blank faces when I introduced myself and asked where I should be heading. I then found out I was actually in the wrong place, and was ushered through the store and behind a bookshelf at the back. From here we descended […]

Drake & Morgan at Kings Cross Review – What We Thought

Who would’ve thought it? It turns out that King’s Cross is full of decent places to eat these days! No longer do you have to suffer a miserable McDonalds or bland Pizza Express if you’re looking to fill your belly before jumping on the train home. The game has changed in recent months as more and more exciting eateries are opening by the day in the new developments that are sprouting up around the station that serves the north of England and Hogwarts. Set between St. Pancras International and Central St. Martins, Drake & Morgan is the newest addition. Fun […]

Dirty Bones Soho Review – What We Thought

If you’re a fan of getting down and dirty then read on…  Let’s pick our minds up out of the gutter shall we, because of course I’m talking about the second Dirty Bones which has recently opened in the food mecca that is Kingly Court. Found on the top floor, this restaurant is lighter than its Kensington High Street counterpart,  large windows gave us glimpses of the diners inside – you don’t have to reserve, so you might be waiting but with quite a quick turnaround, you can  always grab a drink at the bar whilst you wait. The open […]

Voga at Coq D’Argent review – what we thought

Earlier this year we covered the launch of Voga at Coq D’Argent when they began their summer series of classes, well now winter is here and with it comes the festive version of voga. For those of you that don’t know, voga is mash up of traditional yoga and voguing – 80s dance moves with a Madonna feel. The classes take place in the restaurant’s heated terrace which is surprisingly warm given its location. Music is played to give you a beat to work to as dance moves are incorporated to your normal routines, if you’re a hardened yogi you might […]

Indigo at One Aldwych review – what we thought

Hot on the heels on the trend of healthy eating is Indigo, an established restaurant in the beautiful hotel One Aldwych, which 3 months ago quietly stripped gluten and diary from their menu. Executive Chef Dominic Teague was in charge of this decision and claims that customers haven’t been able to tell the difference; we headed down to check it out. Up one snazzy, pink lit, mirrored elevator and we found ourselves at Indigo which is partially situated on a balcony overlooking the One Aldwych bar. Near Christmas is a good time to go as their towering white Christmas tree […]

Blueprint Café Review – What We Thought

Due to Blueprint Café’s position in the Design Museum we hoped to have a quick culture hit before dinner but the museum was closed by the time we got there. The riverside location is enviable but I think the association with the museum conflicts slightly with what the restaurant is. Located where it is, you may expect a lifeless museum café (as the name also suggests) but that couldn’t be further from the truth – except for maybe the bistro chairs. Floor to ceiling windows, civilised groups of businessmen and extremely professional yet friendly service means Blueprint Café holds its […]

Aladino’s Review – What We Thought

If, like me, Egyptian food is something you’ve never tried, think of it as a fusion of the best authentic Greek, Italian, Turkish and Lebanese foods, all delivered with the hearty passion that traditional family recipes bring with them. Open an Alexandrian restaurant in Kensington and you know it will be pretty slick. Crystal chandeliers hang in the main area of the restaurant and Egyptian music played gently in the background. At 7.30pm on a Friday we were surprised to be the only diners, but come 8pm the other diners rolled in. In the meantime we were, at one point, attended […]
