The Rum Kitchen review

The Rum Kitchen is a Caribbean inspired beach shack restaurant and cocktail bar with two sites in Soho and Notting Hill. We found ourselves heading to the Notting Hill venue, rather fittingly the morning after a night out in the area. Hungry and looking for a hangover cure we were excited to be trying an alternative to the usual greasy spoon. Slightly jaded and walking from Ladbroke Grove station feeling shaky and in need of a cure to the horrendous self-induced hangover, the offer of brunch at Rum Kitchen was a welcome one. We knew that what we really needed […]

The House of Peroni

When it comes to summer there are two things that go hand in hand:  drinking and doing it alfresco, I’m referring to drinking there, I don’t want to know about your antics. All the better if you are somewhere like Italy or if like us a faux Italy.  You might remember we told you about House of Peroni presenting Vita al Fresco which is currently at Harvey Nichols?  Well with the sun shining, we thought where better to go for our Friday night drinks then there? Also quite frankly we didn’t want to be jostled around on the pavement like […]

The Royal Opera House’s limited edition L’Occitane Tea.

If I was to write a list of my favourite things it would definitely, amongst others, include fresh flowers, Champagne (I’m not even sorry), new perfume and scones with clotted cream.  Put them together and it can only lead to excellent things – like combining two of my other loves chocolate and peanut butter. Anyway before I digress the Royal Opera House have done just that, throughout May they are serving up a limited edition floral tea in association with L’Occitane and their fine fragrances – La Collection de Grasse.  It’s served in the spectacular Paul Hamlyn Hall – famed […]

Mamma Anna’s Cookery Class

When it comes to cooking my approach is find a recipe and stick with it until I become bored and need to find a new one – currently courgetti features heavily, my talent (debatable) lies in baking. So when I was asked to join a cookery class at Mamma Anna’s in West Kensington I of course said yes, ready to learn new recipes, ready to become the next Nigella. Just down from West Kensington station, Mamma Anna’s is a wonderful little deli which also offers private dining, cooking classes and soon takeaway coffee. Run by Anna and her children Fabrizio […]

Mabel’s: New to Covent Garden

New to Maiden Lane is Mabel’s an all –day dining, drinking and dancing venue. Sat just over the road from the Porterhouse, the first thing to say about Mabel’s that for Covent Garden where restaurants and bars vying for space and attention is that not only is it understated but it’s also pretty darn big. A simple black and white exterior gives way to a bar, restaurant, and a further downstairs bar that becomes a club on Thursdays through to Saturday.  Walls which are various colours are adorned with mirrors,  Victorian –esque images, bookcases and a chandelier hangs from the […]

Bo Drake Review

Korean and Mexican fusion cuisine? Surely not we thought… polar opposite countries, a mix like that wouldn’t work. How wrong we were! The two week old ‘Bo Drake’, hidden away in the heart of stylish Soho, is something quite different. What can you expect…well a Korean/Mexican BBQ, that’s what and a delicious, fun and vibrant one at that. Never been to one before? No neither had we but being a night of ‘Firsts’ we gamefully accepted the outlandish yet delicious cherry pink Soju de la Vida Slushie. The cocktail was injected with the Korean spirit Soju and naughty Mexico’s equivalent Mezcal, […]
