Trawler Trash Opens in Islington

Trawler Trash is a new, Islington seafood restaurant making the most of the lesser known treasures of the sea, the fish that often get forgotten, like the old bargain CD section you use to get in Woolsworth where you’d find a gem, if you will. Just because it is the so-called ‘trash’ doesn’t mean that you won’t be served the best, they’ll only be serving fresh fish delivered that day (that’s why it’s closed on Monday as the trawler men don’t work then) except rather than ‘traditional’ catches you’ll find the likes of pilchards, coley, sprat, grey mullet and cray […]

Now, drum roll please, they have a found a permanent home in London’s Jerusalem Bar and Kitchen and it opens today. Hurrah! The Handbook Meets Jimmy Garcia

Having just announced his new BBQ Club, we caught up with the King of Pop-Ups, Jimmy Garcia, to find out his secret tips for a good pop-up, his most memorable moments and what happened live on Sunday Brunch. What drew you to pop-ups? Having worked as a chef throughout school and college as well as on yachts in the summers between university, I ended up hating my job as a broker in the city. I really missed cooking for people and after reading about a guy in North London turning his home into a restaurant I thought f**k it, let’s […]

Valle Dell’ Erica Hotel – What We Thought

I know what you’re thinking as you read this review, sat at your desk as your boss sends you yet another ‘high importance’ email. You’re thinking wouldn’t it be great if you could go somewhere where the simple things in life remain just that, without all the complexities of city living? Somewhere where you can watch the sunset without electricity pylons splitting it in two, a place where the water is so transparent that Evian’s clearest would find it hard to compete, and a place where ‘rush hour’ doesn’t exist. Well, I didn’t know such a place could exist either, […]

Curveball: Balham’s New Meatballs

The meatball crusade in London is relatively small in comparison to the burger brigade, but come next week they’ll be a new recruit as Curveball opens in Balham, joining the likes of Balls and Company and Belpassi Bros. in championing the humble meatball. Opened by Hannah Pemberton, author of recipe blog, ‘The Kitchen Alchemist’ and Paul Harris, former CFO of Liberty, the menu is the culmination of their travels, memorable meals they’ve had and fresh British produce. Small plates include the Bomba (chorizo croquettes) whilst larger plates include The Mothership – beef chuck and parmesan meatballs in a four-hour short-rib […]

Dine Up Close and Personal With a Michelin-Starred Chef

We all love eating in Michelin-starred restaurants and we love attempting to recreate the food at home (the key here being ‘attempting’) but sometimes our interpretations of dishes aren’t quite like the real deal… You’ll be wanting to make room on your cookery bookshelf because Michelin starred chef Nathan Outlaw has written up a new cookbook, Home Kitchen. It’s his fourth book but it’s the first to have everything covered – and we mean everything – from meat and fish right through to dessert. He’ll be launching his book with a dinner (how else?!), showcasing some recipes from the book at […]

London’s Greatest Sandwich Festival

Oh a good old sarnie. Sometimes, nothing can beat it. We’ve even dedicated a week to celebrating it. Yep, British Sandwich Week is a thing. And now, so is Sandwich Fest – thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign. The festival will see the best of London’s sandwiches all brought to one courtyard, located on Hackney’s Warburton Street. A coincidence? We like to think not. Expect food from the likes of Brindisa, famed for their chorizo roll; Grill My Cheese, who put gourmet twists on the classic grilled cheese; Le Bao, you know, those fluffy cloud like buns filled with a […]
