12 Haunted Restaurants

Eating out in London often means drinking in plenty of spirits, but a beheaded queen, Jack the Ripper victims or a demented ghostly chicken are probably not the spirits you weren’t expecting. Here are some spooky places to eat this Halloween. The Ten Bells Relax with a pint and take in the clientele at the Ten Bells. You’re in good company, that’s probably what Jack The Ripper was doing 130 years ago as she looked for his next victims. At least two of the Ripper’s victims were last seen at The Ten Bells and it’s thought it was where he […]

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017

This year’s list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants has seen some exciting changes. Most notably Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana (Italy) has been squeezed off the top spot by Eleven Madison Park (New York, USA). The full-scale renovation and redesign obviously having worked in their favour catapulting the restaurant from third to first place. While London’s The Clove Club has clung on to their place at twenty-six. The Ledbury has sadly fallen a surprising thirteen places. Having placed fourteenth in 2016 they now reside at number twenty-seven and are left nipping at the heels of their London competitor. On a more positive note Heston Blumenthal’s Knightsbridge […]

Top UK Restaurants Help the Homeless

£8.2 million, that’s how much StreetSmart has raised in 20 years for homeless and vulnerable people. How? Through the simple idea of adding a voluntary £1 to diners’ bills throughout November and December. Because as we start to drink more Prosecco than usual and gorge ourselves silly on mince pies in the run up to Christmas, around 4134 people on a single night in England will be sleeping rough. That number has increased by 134% since 2010. Partnering with Deutsche Bank, the StreetSmart campaign will be donating every penny of every £1 raised to local charities across the UK.  There […]

Peckham Levels, the Next Cultural Hotspot

If we told you the next big cultural destination was a huge carpark you’d think the world had gone mad (and that the London property market was getting wildly out of control). But fear not – new venue Peckham Levels may be at a multi-storey carpark, but it’s one you’ll actually want to get lost in. Gone are the days of holding out your car keys gormlessly while wondering where the hell you parked the car (here at least), because seven levels are being transformed into a workspace for artists, designers, makers and entrepreneurs, where you’ll discover exciting emerging talent […]

London’s New Must-See Exhibition

What can you do about boredom? Beat It with a Michael Jackson exhibition. We all have a certain image that comes to mind when we think of Michael Jackson, be it his iconic dance moves, his endless repertoire of songs you just can’t sit still to, or fashion statements like his sparkly white gloves and military jackets. But something we rarely consider is the impact he had on the art world, despite being THE most depicted cultural figure in visual art. So, for the first time ever, works depicting Michael Jackson by over forty contemporary artists are going to be […]

Archer Street Cocktail Bar is once again the best place in London to get PISTE. Given we’ve spent the summer months luxuriating in Archer Street Cocktail Bar’s Antigua and Barbuda Shack sipping cocktails and imagining ourselves by the white island sands, the transformation from Carribean beach shack to apres ski […]

We Review Ella Canta

What? Spanish for ‘she sings’, Ella Canta is part of the Mexican wave sweeping through London this year. The work of one of Mexico’s best chefs, Martha Ortiz (whose Mexico City restaurant Dulce Patria is on the list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurant), the restaurant like its Mexican sibling is full of colour and artistry, which is to be expected given Martha’s mother is the famous artist Martha Chapa. New? Yes, after quite the build-up Ella Canta opened up at the start of September. Where? Adjoined to the InterContinental London Park Lane, you’ll find Ella Canta in the former […]

A New Mahiki Opens in Kensington

London’s clubs are going through a bit of a rocky patch – you’ve got the iconic South Kensington club that’s set to become a fast food joint, you’ve got exclusive Mayfair clubs dropping like flies and even The Handbook’s favourite ski chalet inspired haunt has bid us farewell.
