Sky High Brunching at Aviary

What? Brunch with sweeping views of London isn’t unheard of but that doesn’t stop it being impressive. There’s just something about seeing London from up high that pales even the best of ground-floor brunches, even if Aviary is only the 10th floor. New? Aviary opened at the end of last year, as part of the ETM Group which includes Burdock (on the ground floor) and the newest addition, Greenwood, over in Nova Victoria. Where? 10th Floor, Montcalm Royal London House, 22-25 Finsbury Square, Moorgate, EC2A 1DX, www.aviarylondon.com On the Menu: Brunch is more of an all-day affair at Aviary, with a hearty a la carte menu meaning if […]

We all know, now more than ever, that we need to work towards saving the planet, to waste less and recycle more. Here at The Handbook HQ we’re always going to be big fans of those trying to cut down waste; so, we’re rather excited to hear about Nine Lives, a new cocktail bar coming to Bermondsey from the founders of renowned drinks agency Sweet&Chilli – Allan Gage, Emma Hutchison and Tom Soden. How are they going to reduce waste? So, take for example, a lemon – when life gives Nine Lives lemons, the bar uses the skin, oils and […]

G & Tea at The Soho Hotel

Can you hear it? It’s the sound of a new afternoon tea arriving in London and this time it is coming all the way from Tarbert – a small Hebridean village. Having come all that way, we need to give it a warm arrival and try it out. Obviously. Launching on the 10th June, at The Soho Hotel, the G & Tea afternoon tea makes revolves around Isle of Harris Gin, which is distilled, bottled and labelled by hand in Tarbert. It also plays on the island’s connection with the sea and its produce. As well as traditional scones and […]

Henrietta: Flawless Dining in Covent Garden

What? Henrietta is the restaurant and bar inside the cool new Covent Garden hotel of the same name, aptly named after the street it sits on. New? Henrietta Hotel only opened in April, successfully securing top dog Ollie Dabbous in the process, in the hope of offering Covent Garden the type of quality dining it currently lacks. Where? 14-15 Henrietta Street, Covent Garden, WC2E 8QH, www.henriettahotel.com On the Menu: Ollie Dabbous is no stranger to producing stunning plates of food but at Henrietta the menu has more of a nod to French cooking than his previous ventures. A second nod goes towards the area […]

Martinis and Meringues at Quaglino’s

We often like to mix our desserts with alcohol but what about martinis and meringues? Now we’ve got your attention. Our favourite cocktail bar is teaming up with The Meringue Girls for a special pop-up cocktail and dessert bar this June. Head bartender, Davide Arruci will be serving a selection of cocktails using Moët Chandon, Belvedere and Hennessy VSOP to make unique, floral-inspired martinis. There will be an assortment of mini meringues to perfectly complement your martini, with exciting flavours such as sour cherry, pistachio and rose, gin and tonic and raspberry. They definitely know how to get us on […]
