What to do This Weekend

What To Do This Weekend 3rd-5th February

The first weekend of February means our wallets are full and we want our glasses to be too. Not to mention our stomachs, that pretty much goes without saying… Good job then that this weekend sees a couple of new brunches, a new Thai street food restaurant opening, and for all the night owls out there, the Super Bowl – aka the biggest sporting event in the USA. Celebrate accordingly with hot dogs, foam hands and the big game on a big screen. Friday: we’re ready for you.

Selfridges’ Rooftop Restaurant Gets Wasted

The eternally popular Selfridges rooftop has just announced an innovative new partnership which is sure to keep demand as high as ever and will see it transformed into a rooftop garden exhibition. Turning to a trio of leading restauranteurs from across the pond, Selfridges are turning their attention to a hugely understated area of the restaurant industry; food waste. With 210,000 tonnes of food thrown away annually by British restaurants, there’s a whole lot more that needs to be done than just whacking a fish pie on the specials menu the day after that pan-fried sea bass didn’t quite sell […]

Rail House Cafe Opens at Nova

What do you know we’ve made it to February! We’ve already lived through a whole month of 2017 and quite the month it was, but let’s look ahead because this month will see the opening of the Rail House Café at Nova Victoria. Part of the Village London Central restaurant group (Riding House Café and Village East), the huge 330-cover restaurant will feature an upstairs bar, raised private dining room and outdoor area for 90 – admittedly that sounds unappealing given the state of the weather, but just keep looking ahead to summer when you’ll be inviting everyone to join […]

We won’t lie, we have been known to have multiple birthday celebrations. Let’s say your birthday falls on a Tuesday – that’s no fun. Aquum Brunch Review: What We Thought

What: The new Greek-inspired, bottomless brunch offering from Clapham bar Aquum complete with boards games and even an adult ball pit. New? Aquum originally opened in 2007 and had a complete refurbishment in September 2016. Where? 68-70 Clapham High Street, Clapham, SW4 7UL www.aquum.co.uk On the Menu: Expect traditional brunch items like full fry ups and eggs benedict but being a predominantly Greek restaurant you’ll also see pork belly souvlaki and chicken pitta with tabbouleh salad. First Impressions: I hadn’t seen Aquum since it had its refurbishment but I liked the new look; it was a slick bar but was still welcoming in the middle […]

18 Hotels and Restaurants that Opened in January

We’ve survived Blue Monday, we’ve survived detoxing, retoxing and January sales. But just because we’ve all been in a bit of a slump doesn’t mean that the restaurants have stopped opening – anything but. Here are 18 cool new restaurants that opened in January… Duck Duck Goose London-born chef Oli Brown conceived of the idea of Duck Duck Goose whilst living in Hong Kong. It brings together the kitsch elements of the old-school Hong Kong cafes with contemporary service. The duck, pork and goose meats are all on display and air-dried then roasted on site in a custom-built air dryer and duck […]

11 Secret Drinking Dens

Everyone loves a drinking den. Though the first thing that springs to mind may be a candlelit basement bar, below we have proved that cosy ground floor destinations can be equally worthy of den status, but low ceilings, dim lighting and creative cocktails are hard to beat. Plan a date, round up your friends and get drinking.

We’re talking about Rum & Sugar and it’s just undergone a relaunch. Housed in an urban, historic warehouse, which once imported goods from the West Indies -we’ll give you two guesses what… It’s now home to a restaurant that captures the spirits of the carnival islands. They’ve got over 200 rums to choose from and new rum cocktails – we’ve got our eye Nelson’s Blood made from Dictador 12-year rum, […]

Party After Dark: Late Night Sessions at Som Saa

One of the most consistently reoccurring restaurants on Londoners’ bucket lists is som saa. If you’re still kicking yourself that you missed their pop-up in Climpson’s Arch or haven’t made the trip to their new-ish permanent site in Shoreditch yet then listen up – we’re about to give you another big reason to pay London’s best Thai restaurant a visit. With a venue somewhere in between industrial East London (it’s an old fabric warehouse) and welcoming Thai home (the space is filled with vintage Thai decorations), som saa is now bringing a little bit more of Thailand to us, with […]
