Roma Review: What We Thought

New? Roma is new to the London restaurant scene – it opened at the end of September – although the food it’s inspired by is much older. Where: 14 New London Street, City of London, EC3R 7NA, www.roma.london First Impressions: Set in the heart of the city, a few minutes walk from Fenchurch Street Station, Roma itself is tucked away down a small side street – not quite the location you’d expect although we did later learn a Roman fort once stood here. The elegant interior assures you you have indeed come to the right place and a hostess at the […]

Christmas isn’t just about carols, mince pies and spending more time with your family than usual. It’s also about festive films – whiling away cold, rainy days whilst chain-eating chocolates and watching Bad Santa and Elf. That’s all good and well but when you need a change of scene we say get out of the house and watch a Christmas classic at one of these winter pop-up cinemas instead…

The Night Before Christmas at sketch

“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…” This Christmas, sketch has employed some of London’s favourite local florists, transforming the already magnificently-designed venue into a Christmas wonderland. Titled ‘The Night Before Christmas’, visitors will be invited to make their way through the eclectic venue passing through individual installations each representing a chapter of the much-loved Christmas tale. Florist Carly Rogers, following her success at the Mayfair Flower Show, has returned to create the ‘Hollow Way’ – upon entering, guests will make their way through the forest-inspired installation, immersing themselves in […]

Island Poke Review: What We Thought

New? Island Poké (pronounce po-kay) has been a name on the street food circuit for a couple of years but has opened a permanent site just in time for the colder months, when being outside is slightly less appealing. We visited on day 2, after a successful soft launch the week before. Where? 8 Kingly Street, Soho, W1B 5PQ, www.islandpoke.co.uk  On the Menu: A simple menu of Hawaiian poké and healthy breakfast bowls, the focus here is on clean, fresh, nutritious food that also happens to taste great. Depending on the time of your visit the counter will be decked […]

Dalloway Terrace’s Winter Wonderland

Named after Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway, Dalloway Terrace is a quintessentially English space designed to evoke the literary ambience of 20th century Bloomsbury – with a healthy dose of 21st century cosmopolitan living. This winter, they’re transforming the space into a charming (heated) winter wonderland, complete with hot chocolate cocktails and cheese fondues; they’ve really captured that alpine spirit. Belgravia florists Wild at Heart have carpeted the venue in snow-covered Narnia-like foliage, while the floors have gained sheep skin rugs. To add to the warmth, you’ll be given hot water bottles as well as complimentary shots of Génépi liqueur, which, […]

Little Feast Returns to Shepherd’s Bush

The more the merrier is what we say about London food markets; this winter, Little Feast are back in Shepherd’s Bush. Beginning in Summer 2015, they remained for 10 weeks before popping up twice more during Christmas 2015 and Summer 2016. The site will be transformed into a magical English winter garden and will become temporary home to five street food kitchens. There’ll be huge Christmas trees and sparkling fairy lights in the festive red, green and gold – a perfect setting to enjoy your mulled wine or cider. Returning to the market following their success last year will be Cheeky […]
