Darbaar Review: What We Thought

New? Chef Abdul Yaseen is the former head chef of renowned Cinnamon Club and he launched Darbaar last year. Where? 1 Snowden Street, Broadgate, EC2A 2DQ www.darbaarrestaurants.com On the Menu: The new menu takes inspiration from the banquets of the Indian Royal Court so you can expect to see dishes like slow roasted leg of baby lamb, royal Madagascar prawn and shahi kulfi with pistachio. First Impressions: The roar of the bar was noticeable on arrival so I expected the restaurant to be heaving but it was near empty. The noise later proved to be large group from a Christmas party which luckily made their way […]

Sartoria’s Italian Alpine Terrace

This winter, Savile Row’s Sartoria have partnered with Italian aperitif Campari to create a winter terrace inspired by Italy’s premier ski resort, Cortina d’Ampezzo, and all part of a greater festive celebration from D&D London, titled Fairytales in the City. The Libare Bar has created an array of seasonal cocktails to make the terrace suitably alpine. You’ll find on the menu the Italian Affair, which is made from Frangelico liqueur with Barcadi, coconut, lime and ginger; the Winter Daiquiri which combines appleton estate rare blend, cinnamon, apple, lime and vanilla syrup. There’s also a selection of negronis, a Milanese favourite, […]

Chop & Chip Opens in Camden Market

Back in 2013, friends Marcus and Fergus founded Chop & Chip. They’ve spent the last couple of years serving up street food in their 1972 Airstream van ‘Big Bertha’ and today they are launching their first permanent site. Opening in Camden Market, the concept is simple, as the name suggests it’s all about chops. Choose from either The Flock (two lamb chops) or The Porky (one large pork chop) and then choose a seasoning. These include mild lemon and herb, classic BBQ and if you’re after spicy then there is the Bit of a Kick, Lip Tingler and Screamer. If […]

Oh Schnapps, Après Comes to Bodo’s Schloss

While not all of us are smooth on the slopes, there is one thing we are all good at: après. This winter, Après Ski London have teamed up with Bodo’s Schloss (where else?) to bring the alps to your doorstep. Kicking off from midday, there’ll be snow cannons, reindeer – yes, they will be real, and an hour of complimentary Moët Chandon cocktails. The snow cannons will be blasting fresh snow onto the street and the reindeers will be there to greet you at the door. Following the cocktails will be 2 hours of Austrian inspired brunch buffet, getting you ready […]

The Cavendish Review: What We Thought

New? The Cavendish has just turned 2 and has launched a brand new menu to celebrate. Where? 35 New Cavendish Street, Marylebone, W1G 9TR, www.35newcavendish.co.uk On the Menu: Head Chef Douglas Santi knows a thing or two about Italian cooking and just like in any neighbourhood or Italian restaurant, food is at it’s core. The new menu is a tempting combination of the classic (chargrilled chicken), refined (beef carpaccio), sophisticated (oysters and caviar) and the down right… Marylebone (cigars). The classic 100 layer lasagne remains on the menu but we favoured of some newer dishes. Drinks wise, the wine list is refreshingly approachable and affordable, […]

9 Top Restaurants Celebrating Thanksgiving

Black Friday, bad politics, the phrase ‘y’all’: why do we keep importing the worst bits of American culture? Instead of introducing, we should take their best ideas – mainly their food. And Thanksgiving is a time when they produce some of the best food so of course we’re on board! But if you can’t make it to the States this year, don’t worry. A number of London restaurants have wised up to how big Thanksgiving could be over this side of the Atlantic and are offering delicious feasts on the day to celebrate.

The World’s Biggest Rum Collection

This year, Cottons Caribbean Restaurant and Salon de Rhum have earned themselves a coveted Guinness World Record…for the bar with the most varieties of rum commercially available. They’ve got a total of 372 rums behind the bar, but maybe don’t try them all at once! The rums themselves have been sourced from all over the world; there are well known brands as well as rarer, small batch rums, like the Nepalese Khukri. Some of the rums may not be so pleasing for the bank account but you won’t be able to find them anywhere else so we’d say it’s worth a […]
