The Islington Townhouse Opens

Hippo Inns was born when the founder’s (Rupert Clevely) daughters told their dad that he had been wallowing for too long. Rupert Clevely and his wife Jo, had owned Geronimo Inns before selling it back in 2010 to Young’s. Now Hippo Inns restore former pubs and inject them with new life and their latest venture Islington Townhouse will open in the iconic Chapel Market in Angel.  The light and spacious pub is set over three floors with areas including an open bar, 42 cover dining area and secret snug. The interior will be traditional with a dusting of contemporary twist. […]

Spa Socials at Mondrian

Just because we no longer have our toes out every day and our skin isn’t quite as exposed as it was in summer doesn’t mean you should skip the pedicures and pampering completely. Just replace the spray tan with a mud mask and settle in to Mondrian London’s brand new SPA Social event. The monthly event sits somewhere in between girls night, Friday drinks and an after-work gym session; it’s socialising meets a great night in. Fun and relaxing, the spa team at Mondrian have created a mix of treatments which are all available as you and a group of […]

The highlight of any party is, more often than not, the food. The Next Avocado Pop-Up: Avolution

Today in The Handbook HQ three of us had avocado for lunch because we, like Meredith Collective, know that avocados are the best food in the world. Well at the very least, one of the top ten best foods in the world. As one of the most Instagrammed foods in the world, it’s safe to say the avolution is nowhere near done yet. And this autumn, pop-up connoisseur Meredith Collective is back with another avocado themed pop-up following the success of the Avo-pop up. This time there is even more avocado than before! There’ll be a five-course avocado tasting menu brunch, avocado […]

The Handbook Meets: Amelia Singer

We know we love to drink wine but how much do we really know about wine itself? While we may be able to pass as not total novices by loudly declaring we need to let the bottle breathe, we still have a while to go. Someone who knows everything there is to know about wine is wine consultant and presenter of ITV’s The Wine Show, Amelia Singer. Amelia is also the founder of self-titled wine business, Amelia’s, which organises and hosts bespoke wine tastings and events. Described as ‘the female Jamie Oliver of the wine world’ we met up with Amelia […]

90’s Brunch Review: What We Thought

When? The next 90’s Brunch is taking place on the 22nd October, but for the full line up of dates check out the website. Where? Each 90’s Brunch is held at a different location which is annouced the Monday before the brunch we attended was at Floripa in Shoreditch. On the Menu: The menu is kept simple, starters are shared – either go for the vegetable fritters or BBQ – then you choose a main course; jerk chicken burger, beef chilli or vegetable burger, before finishing with doughnuts, again to share. First Impressions: The 90’s Brunch is a raucous affair, when we arrived […]

Tropicana Beach Club: Party Paradise

Maxwell’s, the group behind late-night venues including Cafe de Paris, Covent Garden’s Roadhouse and PJ’s Bar and Grill on Fulham Road is turning its hand to a new venture. In-keeping with its signature style of ‘concept’ venues, the latest will transport guests to somewhere a whole lot more tropical than the area between Holborn and Covent Garden actually is – introducing Tropicana Beach Club; a place where palm trees are the norm, food comes from the grill and cocktails are finished with umbrellas. Tropicana Beach Club will be a one-stop destination for party-goers seeking an escape from the grey streets […]

Duck ‘n’ Roll Opens 3rd Restaurant

When it comes to poultry in London then chicken seems to take the centre stage, just as gin dominates the drinks world, chicken dominates the bird world. Well now the understated vodka of the poultry world is making itself heard, we’re talking about duck and today will see the opening of Duck ‘n’ Roll in Camden market. A street food venture set up by Michelin-starred chef Pascal Aussignac and his business partner Vincent Labeyrie, this will be the third permanent site for the restaurant that champions duck – you’ll also find them at #Dinerama in Shoreditch and Trinity Kitchen in […]

This November, Petticoat Lane Market is going to see the arrival of The Holy Birds, a restaurant specialising in poultry, but not just chicken, nope you’re going to see the likes of duck, grouse, wood pigeon, quail and pheasant all on the menu. It’s the work of brothers, Jon and Gerry Calabrese (Wringer & Mangle, The Hoxton Pony, Hoxton Gin); except this time they will be joining forces with their father Salvatore Calabrese aka ‘The Maestro’ the legendary bartender.
