Bellanger Review: What We Thought

New? It’s heading towards its first anniversary which some may say still makes it new whilst others might say in ‘London time’ makes it well established. Where? 9 Islington Green, Islington, N1 ZXH, www.bellanger.co.uk On the Menu: Inspired by the Alsatian brasseries of Paris’ past, the food is primarily French with German touches. We headed there for brunch and the menu is extensive so if, like me, you’re indecisive, check out the menu before you go to save the rest of the table from losing patience. Classic brunch dishes like Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine are joined by veal schnitzels, tartes flambées, […]

What to do This Weekend: 14th-16th October

This week it’s all about food as we see the arrival of three new brunches. Get ready to party with KERB, feast at Oklava, gorge on chocolate, Dinerama is relaunching for the winter months and Bread Ahead is opening it’s first permanent bakery. Choosing where to go eat the weekend is going to be that much harder…eating pants at the ready.

James Martins Exclusive 50th Anniversary Dinner at The Playboy Club

English chef James Martin and Hugh Hefner aren’t necessarily two things that you’d instantly associate with one another but what if we told you James has an award-winning restaurant in the Manchester235 casino and that this year the Playboy Club London is celebrating a landmark birthday (it turns 50 this year) so needs a suitably celebrated chef to cook up a storm? Suddenly it all makes sense. Next Wednesday, an exclusive five-course dinner will be prepared by James and his team behind the scenes at the Playboy Club for members and non-members, with live post-dinner entertainment (the dance floor calls), […]

Bombay Sapphire’s Grand Journey

Embarking on a journey under the influence of alcohol isn’t unusual, in fact, it happens with worrying regularity and usually you want to forget about it. Not all journeys involving alcohol need be predicated on escalating debauchery, as BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® prove. The world and UK’s no.1 premier gin is launching The Grand Journey; a one-off immersive drinking and tasting experience. The London EDITION’s Virtual Hendrick’s Bartender

Ah, the mini-bar. That wonderful but slightly scary place in your hotel room that you look at but don’t dare touch for fear of an unexplainable and slightly extortionate amount being added to your bill, revealed only on departure. Not the best end to a holiday. If locating that mini fridge and discovering boring mini bottles of wine has you wanting to just call room service for a decent drink then it’s time to upgrade: say goodbye to the mini-bar as you know it. The London EDITION is revamping the in-room drinks experience as you know it, because when there […]

New? The Athenaeum has stood proudly next to Green Park since 1849 but has gone through various rebuilds and identity changes in its time. The latest comes in the form of a full makeover on the ground floor and a change of hands in the restaurant. Limited-Edition Michelin-Starred Ice Cream at Gelupo

If you’re even vaguely interested in food and drink you’ll know that last week saw the announcement of the 2017 batch of Michelin stars. The ultimate mark of excellence for a restaurant, 8 precious stars were handed out to London restaurants including Trinity, The Ninth and The Ritz as well as a handful of Bib Gourmands awarded to restaurants at lower price points offering a more casual dining experience. Still, we can’t help thinking that some of our favourites will never achieve Michelin status… until now. Gelupo, the gelateria in Soho from the duo behind Bocca di Lupo, is already […]

Theo’s Simple Italian Review: What We Thought

Theo’s Simple Italian has recently launched a new four-course weekend brunch, so needing a little sustenance on a Sunday we headed off to Earls Court to try it out.  New?  Yes, the new brunch only launched on at the end of September. Where?  4-44 Barkston Gardens, Earls Court, SW5 OEW, www.theossimpleitalian.co.uk On the Menu: The brunch (although lunch would be a better description) is made up of four courses, a starter to share and then a selection of Theo’s legendary pastas before meat and fish dishes and then puddings to share. What To Do This Weekend: 7th-9th October

The first week of October: it’s officially Autumn, it’s officially cold and it’s officially London Cocktail Week. Friday will see the launch of the Jubilee Line Night Tube so late night partying is a must. Taking place throughout the city you practically have to just shut your eyes and you can hear that familiar sound of a cocktail shaker and a drink being expertly poured. If you haven’t been to a Cocktail Week event yet you still have time but it’s only on until Sunday so don’t hang about. Elsewhere, this weekend sees a Greek Wine Festival, the BFI London Film […]

Tropicana Beach Club: Party Paradise

Maxwell’s, the group behind late-night venues including Cafe de Paris, Covent Garden’s Roadhouse and PJ’s Bar and Grill on Fulham Road is turning its hand to a new venture. In-keeping with its signature style of ‘concept’ venues, the latest will transport guests to somewhere a whole lot more tropical than the area between Holborn and Covent Garden actually is – introducing Tropicana Beach Club; a place where palm trees are the norm, food comes from the grill and cocktails are finished with umbrellas. Tropicana Beach Club will be a one-stop destination for party-goers seeking an escape from the grey streets […]
