Wyld Tea Launches at Dandelyan

If summer is all about alfresco drinking and picnics, then autumn marks the return of afternoons spent having tea and we’ll be adding the Wyld Tea at Dandelyan (the award-winning bar at Mondrian London) to our repertoire this year. Launching on the 29th September, the tea, which is the first tea to be served at the hotel, will be inspired by botanical influences (seen in Tom Dixon’s design of the bar) and the 70s (a nod to the original Platner designed Sea Containers building). Whether it’s going to feature glacé cherries and vol au vents we can’t confirm, but we’re […]

7 Bars to be Seen in During London Fashion Week

Until Tuesday, Soho will be swarming with Stan Smith wearing fashionistas, wafting around the streets in ankle-grazing coats and shielding their tired eyes with oversized Céline sunglasses. Whilst most attendees try to convince us of 6am call times and food on the run, we know it’s not all all work and no play. Before the bloggers start checking in to the coolest bars on Instagram, check them out for yourself, ahead of the trend.

The Alfred Tennyson’s Bottomless Brunch

In 1895 writer Guy Beringer made a plea, a very important plea, one that would change our lives and shape our weekends. Writing in Hunter’s Weekly he wrote a piece called ‘Brunch: A Plea’ suggesting that come Sunday morning those who are rather hungover don’t want breakfast, nor do they want to wait for the heavy post church lunch. Instead he suggested a lighter meal served around noon, that would start with tea or coffee. Fast forward 121 years and brunch is very much at the centre of our lives (well it is here at The Handbook HQ), we’re either talking […]

Nope, the band isn’t preparing for a comeback tour, Beastie Boys & Girls is a feasting dinner, taking place at Bethnal Green’s Paradise Garage, sister restaurant to The Dairy, The Manor and Counter Culture in Clapham. The ‘beastie’ element of the dinner comes in the form of the ‘beast’ (animal) being celebrated through nose to tail cooking, or beak to claw seeing as this time around is a celebration of game. The Dirty Dozen at Dirty Martini

Latina Caramella, Big Chivowski and Green Monk. New superhero team? By God we hope so eventually, however, equally as intriguing, these are the names of just three of the new cocktails on Dirty Martini’s bold, diverse new menu. Their new menu is inspired by trend-focused flavours including Peroni (excellent), mascarpone foam (interesting) and balsamic vinegar (damn right frightening) which has culminated in six brand new martinis, an indulgent collection of Distinctively Dirty and a mouth-watering selection of fresh cocktails named Dirty Dozen. Among the new martini’s is the wintery Chai Pear Martini which combines Absolute Blue Vodka, Monin Chai Tea […]

Icelandic Sense-ation Dinners at Texture

With so much happening in the London food scene, it can often be difficult to find something unique, something different and something that’s going to leave you feeling a little amazed. We think we’ve found it though, in the form of the Sense-ation Dinners taking place at Michelin-starred restaurant Texture next month. The series of dinners are in association with Promote Iceland and Blue Lagoon and transform the private dining room into a little slice of Iceland. It was all very Narnia meets Game of Thrones esque. The walls are lined floor to ceiling with live moss, Icelandic trees and […]

Tootoomoo: Pan-Asian in Islington

An ancient Indonesian folktale tells the tale of a little girl called Tootoomoo, who became friends with The Giant through food. Sounds like our sort of friendship and it’s this story that sets the scene for Tootoomoo which opened yesterday in Islington. Ancient recipes meet modern cooking at this Pan-Asian restaurant and the menu, created by Executive Chef Ricky Pang, brings together Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. Start with sharing dishes like Shichimi squid, crispy smoked chicken and vegetarian potstickers, before moving onto sushi including yuzu salmon maki, soft shell crab maki and Californian prawn rolls. You’ll find […]

Gaucho’s Divine Bovine Goes Global

Cows; aesthetically displeasing, ponderous beasts that will never be described by such terms as ‘captivating’ or ‘fascinating’ but by God they taste great, and if there’s one establishment that knows it, it’s Gaucho. In celebration of the fine cut Gaucho are taking their annual Divine Bovine event global for one night only. This is a night that will pay homage to the finest of Argentine Aberdeen Angus beef, the delivery of which Gaucho fervently commit. Not to say we’re unhealthy, but sometimes life gets in the way of all our quinoa, spirulina and matcha dreams – this is where Sanderson step in. Undoubtedly one of London’s most stylish hotels, Sanderson has recruited the expertise of Danielle Copperman, health blogger, model and name […]
